Frankie Muniz didn't expect to start day one of the Malcolm in the Middle reboot with a luggage crisis, but that's precisely what happened on Wednesday. The American actor and professional stock car racing driver touched down in Vancouver ahead of filming for his upcoming comedy show, but instead of settling into rehearsals, Muniz was forced into a different kind of preparation—tracking down his lost luggage with American Airlines.
The incident gained social media attention after the Malcolm in the Middle star took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to share his experience over the luggage mishap involving American Airlines. In an X post, he wrote:
"Just landed in Vancouver to start working on Malcolm tomorrow. But I have no clothes because @AmericanAir lost my luggage."
The post quickly went viral, getting over one million views as fans and followers expressed sympathy and shared similar experiences. The airline later acknowledged the error and issued a formal apology in response to the growing attention. They wrote:
"We're sorry to hear about this and truly apologize for any inconvenience caused. Please send us your confirmation code via DM, and we’ll investigate the issue to find a solution."
Frankie Muniz provides an update on missing luggage
The luggage incident continued the next day, as thirty hours later the airline had yet to offer a solution to Muniz. He posted an update to his situation saying that he had not yet received his bag. His post gained attention and concerns from fans online. Travelers who faced similar issues with American Airlines also commented on his second post.
Muniz's followers were split, as some eagerly awaited the return of the comedy show, while others were busy laughing at the irony of his travel troubles.
"Our family can’t wait for the reboot!! My oldest kids and I were huge Malcolm fans!" said one follower.
Another joked, "Life imitating art man, can’t wait to see the episode that comes out of it!
A third summed it up in two words: “Source material.”
While a fourth added, "This should be in the next Malcolm in the middle season"
After dealing with the missing luggage incident, Muniz's day took yet another turn as he shared that he had also been slapped with a parking ticket, highlighting the experience with the hashtag “#FML,” rebranded as “Frankie Muniz’s Life.” To which a follower replied with
"Method acting Malcom . Respect"
As of now, there has been no official update that Frankie Muniz's missing luggage has been returned.
Malcolm in the Middle revival
In December 2024, Disney+ greenlit a Malcolm in the Middle revival. The four-episode special follows Malcolm and his daughter, Leah as they get swept into his family's usual chaos when Hal and Lois insist they show up for their 40th wedding anniversary.
The filming of Malcolm in the Middle will begin soon, with Frankie Muniz reprising his title role as Malcolm, the middle child of the family, alongside Bryan Cranston and Jane Kaczmarek, returning as parents Hal and Lois. Justin Berfield and Christopher Masterson are also back as older brothers Reese and Francis, respectively.
The comedy show revolved around the story of a child prodigy with an IQ of 165 and his family's dysfunctional relationships. The show previously ran for seven seasons and 151 episodes, from 2000 to 2006. During its original six-year run, the series picked up seven Emmy Awards and was nominated for a variety of different awards. Frankie Muniz was also Emmy nominated for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series in 2001.
