Hillary Clinton, the former U.S. Secretary of State, sat down for a discussion on Kara Swisher's podcast On With Kara Swisher, on September 15.
During the podcast, she criticized Elon Musk for his recent comments on Taylor Swift, in which he said that she won, and he was ready to impregnate her and guard her cats with his "life." She called it "rotten and creepy," saying,
“I can’t understand why he says what he says. It just is beyond my imagination.”
Hillary Clinton saw it as "kind of another way of saying r*pe," and Swisher concurred. She also expressed her approval of Swift, condoning her for her "resilience." Musk's remarks come just after Swift announced her endorsement of Vice President Kamala Harris for the 2024 Presidential Election.
She signed off on her announcement with "childless cat lady," a direct reference to a comment Vice presidential candidate J.D. Vance passed on childless Democratic voters in 2021.
Hillary Clinton dubs Elon Musk Trump's "alter ego"
Hillary Clinton continued lauding Swift for standing up for herself when needed and noted that she admired her for that.
“The fact that it happened right after the debate and just added to Kamala’s momentum must have just set them all off. Taylor Swift brings an unusual impact to an endorsement. Her fanbase is so intense and incredibly influenced by her."
When speaking about Musk's comments, Hillary Clinton said that for such “so-called masters of the universe in the technology world…misogyny is such a part of their worldview." She dubbed him Trump's "alter ego," and added that they tend to gravitate towards "toughness and brutality and machoism."
She then showered praise on Swift again, noting:
"And here’s Taylor Swift, a self-made billionaire who brings joy to people and who imparts life lessons, particularly to girls and women. They can’t stand it.”
Hillary Clinton carried on, even condoning one instance where the pop star took legal action against a man who harassed her in 2013 and her decision to re-produce some of her old tracks after she lost control over the first six albums to record producer Scooter Braun.
"She’s a singer who charts the course of her life which they relate to as their own lives, but she’s also someone who stood up to a guy who groped her and stood up to get her music back from someone she thought had illegitimately had taken it from her. She has demonstrated a resilience in taking control over her own life that sends a strong message. I’m a huge admirer. I think [her endorsement] has real impact.”
Taylor Swift took to Instagram to publicly endorse the Harris-Walz campaign for the upcoming presidential election, noting that she believes in Harris because "she fights for the rights and causes" she believes in.
She also noted that the country could benefit from some "calm and not chaos," and lauded Harris' running mate selection, Tim Walz.
