Janet Jackson recently reminisced about a memorable fashion mishap from the 1990s during an interview with British Vogue. She revealed that her pants split while performing Rhythm Nation in front of the late Queen Elizabeth II.

During an interview with British Vogue on September 12, Janet recalled the wardrobe malfunction moment while looking back at her fashion moments over the years,

"Funny story about this outfit, I was performing for the Queen of England and doing Rhythm Nation and sure enough, soon as I squatted, my pants split right at my booty crack. I couldn't believe it happened. I thought, "Oh my God." And then I started feeling air back there so then I knew that it had to really happen."

The choreography required her to turn her back to the Queen, but Janet avoided doing that to not flash the late Queen.

"And the whole time it was fine until "No, you're going to perform for the Queen of England." So I never turned my back to her. Which some of the choreography was supposed to...I just faced forward."

More of Janet Jackson's wardrobe malfunctions

This isn't the first time Janet Jackson had to deal with a wardrobe malfunction on stage; the singer has been a long-time victim of wardrobe mishaps over the years.

In February 2004, Justin Timberlake, while performing at the Super Bowl, invited Janet as a surprise guest during the halftime show. In the final moments of the performance, while singing "Bet I'll have you naked by the end of this song," Justin exposed Janet's breast when he ripped off part of her costume. The move caused both Timberlake and Janet to publicly apologize as the audience wondered if the event was an accident or planned.

While speaking about the incident in her 2022 Lifetime documentary Janet Jackson, the singer argued that the outrage on the incident was "blown out of proportion." She also insisted that her and Timberlake "have moved on and it's time for everyone else to do the same."

As per Yahoo, both NFL and MTV tried to resolve themselves from any accountability and over 540,000 complaints were registered to the Federal Communications Commission.

FCC Chairman Michael Powell called the incident, "a classless, crass and deplorable stunt" and promised to take further action. The network’s parent company, Viacom, decided to blacklist Janet Jackson, leading to her music being banned from MTV, VH1, and all radio stations they controlled. Other media companies also followed suit with similar restrictions.
