How did Thea Booysen and MrBeast meet? Relationship timeline explored

YouTube's most subscribed individual creator, MrBeast, is now officially engaged with South African content creator, Thea Booysen. Captioning a series of adorable family photos on Instagram, the couple supposedly got engaged on Christmas Day.

MrBeast, whose real name is Jimmy Donaldson, surprised Thea with a ring while on a holiday with the family.

Thea Booysen and the YouTube met for the first time in South Africa in 2022, marking the first step in their journey together. MrBeast was in the country at the time with fellow YouTubers, Logan Paul, and, Casey Neistat.

Originally planning on filming in Antarctica, the group had to stay in South Africa after unexpected circumstances and a COVID-19 outbreak. At one point, a mutual friend invited Thea to dinner with MrBeast, where both of them had a conversation for the first time, according to People Magazine.

In a recent interview with the Wide Awake Podcast, Thea shared that their first discussion was lively and thought-provoking. She shared:

“The fact that he could keep up with the conversation to me was very attractive because you have to have a certain amount of interest and intellect.”

The couple went public with their romance in April 2022, when they made their first red carpet-appearance at the Kids’ Choice Awards.

At first, their relationship was long-distance, as Thea was living half the time in the U.S. and half the time in South Africa because of visa restrictions. But in 2024, she revealed they had moved in together and adopted a dog.

Exploring Thea Booysen's Career and Academic Qualifications

Thea Booysen began her rise in the gaming space in 2016 when she started streaming card-based video games on various platforms including Twitch and YouTube with TheaBeasty as her gamer tag. She is also the co-owner of the South African esports organization, Nixuh.

She received a bachelor’s degree in law and an honors degree in psychology from Stellenbosch University in South Africa. She later pursued an advanced degree in neuropsychology at the University of Edinburgh and graduated in 2024.

Apart from her gaming and studies, Thea is an author. In 2022, she published her first novel, The Marked Children, a book of young adult fiction. As reported by People Magazine, she started writing the book in high school and continued it during her undergraduate years.

Thea Booysen also has a YouTube channel, More Than Human, wherein she explores topics related to psychology and well-being.
