Timothée Chalamet said he owes his successful acting career to rapper Lil B, aka Brandon Christopher McCartney. In a recent interview with Nardwuar, the Canadian celebrity journalist and musician, the actor discussed his experience playing Bob Dylan in the recent movie A Complete Unknown.
The two entertainers explored vinyl while discussing insights from Bob Dylan’s life. At one point, Nardwuar asked the actor about how he was knighted by Lil B. Although the Dune actor replied in affirmative, he said it would require another Nardwuar interview. Timothée Chalamet added:
“I met him at NYU. I had $50 from a commercial I did. I bribed a kid to give me his ticket. I was in there alone, you know, front row to the right. I raised my hand. I got called on by him. I asked I was told him I was going to ask out a crush. He invited me on stage and he knighted me and honestly, he said that boy’s hands been blessed and from there my acting career took off.”
Timothée Chalamet met the rapper at New York University when he was 16. The clip from this interview segment was posted on X by ‘The Art of Dialogue.’ McCartney reshared the post with the caption:
“LEGACY AND LOVE! - Lil B.”
The actor expressed gratitude to the rapper, mentioning that he faced challenges early in his career, having only worked on minor projects. By the age of 22, he had earned an Oscar nomination, emphasizing the impact of the rapper’s influence.
Timothée Chalamet said Lil B was a ‘hugely formative artist’ in his life
Timothée Chalamet also shared with Nardwuar that he recently discussed with Tyler, The Creator how Lil B "The BasedGod" had knighted him. Unaware of this, Tyler remarked that he could sense an aura suggesting someone who had received such an honor. The actor stated:
“Lil B is like a hugely formative artist in my life and career. He dropped an album called I’m Gay and the roll out was very ambiguous about his sexuality or the meaning of that album and I was just inspired from the sense that wow this guy is doing just whatever f*ck he wants.”
As per HipHopDx, the actor has been collaborating with Tyler, The Creator on the rapper's first feature film. Both will appear alongside Gwyneth Paltrow in Marty Supreme, directed by Joshua Safdie and scheduled for release in December 2025.
Nevertheless, Timothée Chalamet reiterated his admiration for the rapper, noting how impactful it was to see the artist's versatility within the hip-hop genre. He shared his appreciation and sent a shoutout to Lil B.
Timothée Chalamet and Nardwuar explored further topics related to Bob Dylan, including his transition to electric guitar at the 1965 Newport Folk Festival, his inspirations, and his enduring influence on culture.
