Amy Allen was born in 1992 and is now 32 years old. She is from Maine and grew up with a love for music from a young age. According to an article by the Grammys, her upbringing shaped her songwriting, with influences from classic rock to contemporary pop.
At the 2025 Grammy Awards, Amy Allen won Songwriter of the Year, Non-Classical, making her the first woman to receive the honor since the category was introduced in 2023.
Allen went on to express the many struggles and triumphs of songwriters in the industry during her acceptance speech and emphasized how integral they are to creating the music. She devoted her award to all the other songwriters, advocating for greater recognition of their work. She said:
"This award also belongs to my fellow nominees and every single songwriter out there still fighting the good fight,” Without us, there would be no songs for anyone to win awards for."
Amy Allen won the award due to her contributions to many hit songs. She wrote Sabrina Carpenter’s chart-topping songs “Espresso” and “Please Please Please” which was nominated for Song of the Year.
She also wrote songs for artists including Olivia Rodrigo, Tate McRae, Justin Timberlake, and Leon Bridges. She had previously won a Grammy in 2023 for her work on Harry Styles’ Harry’s House, which took home Album of the Year.

Music has always played an influential role in Amy Allen’s life, a passion deeply shaped by her father, a die-hard classic rock fan. Allen told Variety that she grew up listening to hours of legendary rock music with him and her sisters in the car. She said,
“Our school was 45 minutes away in Portland...and my dad is the biggest classic-rock fan, so since I was little, I spent hours every day listening to music in the car with him and my sisters.”
When her older sister started a band called No U-Turn, Amy stepped in as a bassist at 8 years of age learning songs by artists like Tom Petty and The Rolling Stones.
In an interview with Variety, Sabrina Carpenter said,
“She’s super versatile: She can wear any hat and yet it still feels authentic. I’ve learned a lot from her and admire what an incredible collaborator she is.”
Allen has built her career in the music industry for many years now. She began singing in many other bands before attending the Berklee College of Music, where she honed her talents as a songwriter.
Her big break arrived in 2018 when she co-wrote Selena Gomez’s hit Back to You, which appeared on the soundtrack for the Netflix series 13 Reasons Why.
Now Amy Allen is a vocal advocate for female representation in the music business. In 2021, she put out the song “A Woman’s World,” addressing gender inequities and power relations within the industry.
