Kanye West, who has been making headlines for his heated comments on X, declared that he would be "SPEAKING ON R KELLY," who was married to the late R&B singer Aaliyah.
R. Kelly and Aaliyah got secretly married when she was just 15 and he was 27, back when they collaborated on her first record, Age Ain’t Nothing But a Number. However, upon catching wind of this, her parents moved to have the marriage annulled, according to a Variety report.
In a post on X, Kanye West alleged that the legal age to get married in Massachusetts, with parental consent, is 14.
According to the official website Mass.gov:
In Massachusetts, under MGL c.207, s. 25, a person under eighteen cannot marry without parental consent.
However, there are no laws outlining the minimum age at which a person can marry with a parent’s consent, the website added.

According to a Euro News report, R. Kelly was found guilty in September 2021 of being the leader of a racketeering and s*x trafficking scheme that went on for decades, and would prey on underage girls, young men, and women. Now, the singer is spending his life behind bars for violating the Mann Act, which is an anti-sex trafficking law that prohibits someone from taking another person across state lines "for any immoral purpose."
As reported by US News, after the verdict was reached, US attorney Jacquelyn Kasulis issued a statement, noting that "justice was finally served." Kasulis stated:
"Today's guilty verdict forever brands R. Kelly as a predator who used his fame and fortune to prey on the young, the vulnerable, and the voiceless for his own sexual gratification. A predator who used his inner circle to ensnare underage girls, young men, and women for decades in a sordid web of sex abuse, exploitation, and humiliation."
As for Kanye West, the rapper has been drawing the ire of the internet for his antisemitic claims and strong-worded opinions. The rapper's account has now been suspended, not long after he took to X to reveal that the owner of the platform, Elon Musk, had unfollowed him.
Prior to his account being banned, several of the controversial rapper’s posts came with a “sensitive content” warning, which was plastered on his main account as well as on most of his latest posts.
The move comes amid calls to ban Kanye West's account growing louder from several quarters including some celebrities such as Friends star David Schwimmer. According to a Variety report, Schwimmer, who is Jewish, took to Instagram to call on Musk to ban West permanently.
