Jeffery Lamar Williams aka Rapper Young Thug was released from jail on Thursday evening after pleading guilty to involvement in a criminal gang, drug, and gun charges.
The Grammy Award Winner was sentenced to two and a half years in prison after he was arrested on racketeering and gang-related charges. With this, the longest criminal trial in the history of Georgia has come to an end.
Reacting to the news in a text message to WSB-TV, Thug’s girlfriend Mariah The Scientist said that it “is the greatest opportunity” and that they are grateful to God.
“Thank you God, thank you God. This is more than what we prayed for. We are so grateful, this is the greatest opportunity we’ve ever been presented with and we are so grateful.”
The R&B singer also thanked the Superior Court Judge, Paige Whitaker, and other attorneys who worked on the case.
“Thank you Judge Paige Whitaker for giving us the opportunity to move forward with our life! Thank you God. Thank you Brian Steel and Keith Adams and every attorney working on this case, tireless. THANK YOU! I cannot say it enough, I cannot repay you for this. You have changed our lives, Jeffery’s life and mine. Thank you to everyone who has been there for us, every fan, who believed in us and prayed for us.”
Unraveling the mystery behind Mariah the Scientist's name
Mariah Buckles aka Mariah the Scientist made her debut with the album Master in 2019 and went on to give hits like Beetlejuice, Thanks 4 Nothing, and Reminders.
She is known for her relationship with rapper Young Thug. The couple sparked dating rumors in 2021. Their relationship was confirmed when Mariah openly showed some love for her boyfriend during a performance at Outside Lands in San Francisco.
“Now, you know I got a man. He locked up. Free my baby daddy!” Mariah spoke to her fans.
Besides her relationship, “the scientist” part in her name has often been quizzed in interviews. Revealing the reason, Mariah explained in one of her interviews that she had chosen biology as her subject in college which led to the name Maria The Scientist.
The singer also revealed how later in her career she decided to drop out and make music.
“So, no, Mariah The Scientist is not really a singer,”
she tells Wake Check and adds,
“She is a f**k*ng scientist and then she decided to make music.”
In one of the other interviews, Mariah also explained how her loved ones liked to call her by that name so she never really thought of changing it.
Charges imposed on the rapper Young Thug
Young Thug pleaded guilty to involvement in six charges one for his participation in criminal street activity, three drug charges for violating the Georgia Controlled Substances Act, one for possessing a firearm while committing a felony and another for possessing a machine gun.
According to the plea agreement, the rapper will be serving 15 years on probation.
On completing the probation without any violation of rules, another 20 years will be commuted for his time served. In case, the singer is caught violating the conditions, he will have to serve an additional 20 years to any penalty by the court.
