Terrence Howard, the star of movies such as Hustle & Flow and television shows like Empire, has had a controversial personal life full of complexities and controversies. The Oscar-nominated actor has been married a total of four times to three different women, and each of those relationships is marked by a series of public scrutiny and allegations.

Terrence Howard married his first wife, Lori McCommas, during his college days at Pratt Institute in New York. The couple married in 1994 and had three children: two daughters and a son.

But according to several reports, they had a stormy relationship. They divorced in 2003, after almost a decade of marriage, and remarried in 2005. The second try also ended in divorce in 2007.

While there was no public talk of why they split, the couple's relationship was embroiled in controversy when Terrence Howard confessed to having physically attacked McCommas in 2001 during an interview with Rolling Stone in 2015.

"She was talking to me real strong, and I lost my mind and slapped her in front of the kids," he said.

In spite of all these confessions, little is known about their post-divorce relationship. On the other hand, Howard’s relationship with his second wife, Michelle Ghent, caused him to deal with severe accusations of domestic abuse.

More about Terrence Howard's unstable marriage with Michelle Ghent and Miranda Pak

Howard’s second wife, Michelle Ghent, came into his life not long after his divorce from McCommas. The two got married in 2010, but the relationship proved to be brief. After less than a year of marriage, Ghent filed for divorce, citing irreconcilable differences. Their separation was followed by court battles with allegations of physical abuse.

Ghent accused Howard of multiple acts of physical violence, including a violent encounter on a 2013 visit to Costa Rica, in which she said he punched her and strangled her. Howard denied many of the allegations but did admit in interviews to having struck her once as a form of self-defense.

Their legal fight dragged on for years, with Terrence Howard being ordered to pay Ghent $1.3 million in spousal support in a 2019 court decision, as per The Daily Mail.

Howard wed model and restaurateur Miranda Pak in 2013. According to Radar News, he proposed after only a month of dating, and they married later that year. But by 2015, the two had split.

Despite their divorce, Terrence Howard and Miranda Pak still lived together as a family and raised their children together after they divorced. They welcomed their first son, Qirin, after their breakup and a second son, Hero, in 2020.
