Gibson’s eldest, Hannah Mae Brobst, was born on November 24, 1980, to his first wife, Robyn Moore. Gibson, who was shooting Gallipoli in Egypt at the time, managed to stay in touch through a phone call during her birth per People Magazine. Hannah later became a production assistant on her father’s films, including The Patriot and What Women Want.

Mel Gibson and Moore later had twin sons, Christian and Edward Gibson, in 1982. Christian took on his father’s profession and became a camera operator, working on projects like Hacksaw Ridge. Whereas Edward took a different route. Edward’s business, called Natural Edge, specializes in crafting art and furniture out of reclaimed wood.

Gibson began dating the Russian songwriter Oksana Grigorieva after his separation from Moore, and they had a daughter named Lucia Gibson together in 2009. Now 15, Lucia has shown a creative flair and has had success with art and music. She has made appearances in her mother’s music videos, People Magazine has reported.

They separated in 2006, after 26 years of marriage, and their divorce was finalized in 2011. ABC News states that Moore supposedly received half of Gibson’s estimated $850 million fortune at the time.

After splitting from Moore, Mel Gibson dated a Russian pianist and songwriter Oksana Grigorieva. Their relationship was deeply troubled, culminating in a very public split in 2010 during which Gibson was accused of domestic violence.

Grigorieva subsequently said she was suffering from PTSD as a result of the alleged attack. Their divorce was settled out of court.
