TMZ has reported that Ben Foster and Laura Prepon have filed for divorce after six years of unity. According to People Magazine and US Weekly, Foster filed the papers citing "irreconcilable differences " and listing their date of separation as September 9, 2023.
The two welcomed their first child, a girl named Ella, in 2017, who is now 7 years old. A year later, they tied the knot, and in 2020, they welcomed a boy, now 4. The couple has declined to reveal his name as part of their ongoing efforts to keep their kids out of the spotlight, but per Page Six, the filing indicates his name begins with the letter “A."
Laura Prepon reflects on motherhood, being a working parent, and undergoing an abortion
Speaking to People Magazine in 2020, the Orange is The New Black alum reflected on why the couple chooses to keep their kid's lives private:
"Everyone is different with [posting] pictures of their kids — no judgment, do your thing. It's a personal thing. But for my husband and I, that's where we do remain extra private, is when it comes to our kids."
She continued:
"We make all those decisions as a family. So at a certain point ... we'll say it, but ... being that we're in the public eye, we always have conversations around anything, especially that has to do with our kids. We're very protective of that."
In an interview with the outlet in 2021, Laura Prepon reflected on the anxiety she went through when she first welcomed her daughter. She pointed out that motherhood is anything but consistent, and you have no choice but to "move on and evolve from that." Regardless, she said, she was "riddled with anxiety that [she] had never experienced before."
In 2020, Laura Prepon revealed to Us Weekly that she was forced to go through an abortion after having learned of a fatal fetal abnormality in her second trimester, one that endangered her life. She said,
"I really started holding my body parts and telling myself, ‘I love you,’ saying, ‘I love you arms. I love you head. I love you face. I love you neck,’ going through every single body part. I would do this talk every day, and I meant it. I truly meant it.”
Then, in 2022, Laura Prepon reflected on what it's like to be a working mom. She said:
"I really have to balance work life and mom life. Parents have been dealing with it for a very, very long time, I’m sure, but that kind of balance is definitely hard. You figure it out and we have a great family dynamic. Thank goodness. We’ll figure it out, but that’s probably the toughest thing —being away from them when I’m at work. The guilt is just overwhelming sometimes.”
According to USA Today, Ben Foster appealed to the court to move for equitable distribution of assets and debt, as mentioned in their 2018 prenuptial agreement. He also sought to enter into a “marital dissolution agreement and agreed parenting plan.”
