Cam Newton, a father of eight, says he's ready for more kids.
Speaking with People Magazine, the former NFL player said he wants as many children “that God gives me.” He referred to his children as his "refuge" and his "peace."
Cam Newton shares four children with his ex-girlfriend Kia Proctor: sons Camidas Swain, Chosen Sebastian, and Cashmere Saint, and daughter Sovereign-Dior Cambella. He also raises her older daughter, Shakira. Furthermore, he shares son Caesar with LaReina Shaw and raises her older son, Jaden. However, Newton welcomed a baby girl last March with his current girlfriend, Jasmin Brown.
Cam Newton on his philandering ways, his love for his blended family, and his strained relationship with his daughter
Speaking on the interview, Cam Newton reflected on what his kids meant to him:
"But jokingly, and not jokingly, they really give me my purpose and there’s so many different things that I look at to say, they’re my refuge,” Newton said during his interview. “They’re my peace. They’re my encouragement. here’s times where, even I’m here and they’re still at home,” he continued. “Those type of things affect me but it also gives me more reason to say I’m doing this because of that situation.”
During an episode of Special Forces that came out just this week, Cam Newton revealed that he had been tackling “resentment” after siring a child with someone outside of his relationship.
"My dark side in my life was like I was in a long-term relationship and I had a child outside my relationship," Newton explained. "We had just moved into a house and everything was kind of perfect from the outside in, you know? And my relationship with my oldest daughter has suffered. All she kept asking was, 'Yo, why?' " he added. “I'm still dealing with that resentment. So if I can heal that, then that's the star. My daughter. We have our disconnects, but I just want my children to know that their dad cares, like I care.”
Back in April 2024, he revealed that he loves his whole blended family equally. Speaking on Club Shay Shay at the time, he said:
"I proudly say I have eight children. Six biologically through me. And I don’t believe in stepchildren. What my biological kids get, everybody gets. I don’t have no favorites. I’m raising kings and queens.”
However, the father of eight also revealed that dealing with such a large family can take a hit on your finances. Speaking on an episode of the FOX reality series, Special Forces: Worlds Toughest Test, this January, he revealed that things were getting difficult now that he wasn't earning as much as he did when he played for the NFL:
“I’m going into a different phase of my life that’s going to require a different form of myself,” he said. “Being in the NFL, everyone knows there’s a large sum of money that comes to you in a short span of time and being away from the game for three years, those checks don’t came in the same. Like I got eight kids. It hurts me knowing that I can't provide like I once did,” Newton continued. “It hurts thinking that I'm Superman, but in reality, I'm just a man.”
Cam Newton played in the NFL for 11 seasons, though most of his tenure was with the Carolina Panthers, where he served as quarterback.
