On April 22, it was revealed that the 2025 BET Awards are set to be aired on June 9th with Kevin Hart as the host. The American actor and comedian has hosted about three award shows and, hence, is no stranger to hosting award shows, though his past experiences and opinions might suggest that he may not be too keen on it.

According to Wikipedia, Hart has hosted about three award shows: the 2011 BET Awards, the 2012 MTV Video Music Awards, and the 2016 MTV Movie Awards (with Dwayne Johnson). He was announced as the host of the 2019 Oscars but was dropped due to backlash over his reportedly homophobic jokes and tweets from the past.

According to People Magazine, in a press meeting, Kevin Hart shared how he feels about hosting the "culture’s biggest night" and promises the audience "unforgettable moments" and "show-stopping performances," as well as "tributes reflecting Black culture's depth and richness."

I love a celebration! It’s a chance to reflect, cherish, and honor life’s unforgettable moments. I’m truly honored to host the 25th BET Awards and celebrate the culture’s biggest night.

The CEO of BET, in a statement, shared his excitement in having Kevin Hart, "a beloved part of the BET family," to host the 25th anniversary BET Awards.

Kevin Hart once shared that Award show ceremonies aren't "comedy-friendly."

According to Variety, in 2024, Kevin Hart once again shared that the Oscars or any award show, for that matter, "aren't comedy-friendly environments anymore." According to reports, he shared this comment with Sky News following the 2024 Golden Globes Controversy regarding some of the comments made by comedian Jo Koy while hosting the ceremony.

Whatever little hope you had, I want to destroy it right now. Those gigs aren’t good gigs for comics. It’s no shot to the Oscars, no shot to the Globes or anything else. Those just aren’t comedy-friendly environments anymore.

According to reports, while giving a "shout-out" to people who cracked the code on how to host these ceremonies, Kevin Hart said that unless you are a comic with "relationships of all," then "those rooms are very cold." He further shared that there is too much pressure on the comic as well as "what’s jokes and not jokes."

Kevin Hart himself had a bitter experience in the past, as he had to step down as the host for the 2019 Oscars after reportedly homophobic tweets in the past, as well as comments he made in his previous stand-up shows, resurfaced online.
