While Toni Braxton and Birdman had been friends for around 15-16 years, the pair began dating on and off in 2016. The rapper proposed to Toni in February 2018, and at the time, while speaking to People Magazine, Toni talked about her reaction to the proposal,

"I never thought we would be dating or getting married."

As per a TMZ report, Toni Braxton married Birdman on August 8, 2024, only to file for divorce two weeks later. Their date of separation was listed as August 10, 2024, two days after their marriage. Braxton and her attorney, as per the court documents, called the marriage "irretrievably broken." However, after Birdman signed off on the divorce, Braxton dismissed the divorce petition in January 2025.

In a 2019 episode of Braxton Family Values, Toni, while speaking to her sister, confirmed that she has broken up with the rapper,

"We probably just should have eloped a long time ago. We would probably still be together."

She also announced that maybe she's "not engaged anymore," and when her sisters asked for an explanation, the star brushed it off, saying she didn't want to talk about it.

Braxton then went on to note that she experienced cold feet after the engagement,

"I don't know, Trina, I don't know...just stuff. Maybe I have happiness, and I just don't know how to be happy yet."

In 2018, the rapper proposed to her girlfriend, and Toni said yes. However, rumors surfaced online that the two had called it quits on their wedding plans in early 2019 after Toni was spotted without her engagement ring. At the time, while speaking to People Magazine, Toni said, "Single is nice."

"Single is nice. I haven't practised it yet, but I'm going to soon because I've been wrapped up in my (vegas residency). I'm looking forward to getting out there and dating."

The two had also unfollowed each other on Instagram back then. On December 31, 2023, Toni slammed marriage rumors and mentioned that the two were single while addressing fan speculation.
