Sam Asghari reflected on how their relationship changed when he realized the full scope of the legal limits governing her life. From 2008-2021, Spears was placed under a court-mandated conservatorship, giving her father, Jamie Spears, complete control over her financial and personal choices.
On the podcast, he said
"One day I start learning about what the conservatorship is, and that’s when I was like, ‘Wait a minute. I thought I’m in America. What do you mean someone over the age of 18 needs permission from their parents?'” \
He added,
"That was the most difficult and weird spiral thing that I’ve witnessed in my life.”
Sam Asghari has been her biggest supporter since he found out about her conservatorship. The actor from Can You Keep a Secret? claimed that supporting the 43-year-old singer was the "best thing" he could do for her at the moment.
He added,
“I think the best thing to do is to provide support in that moment and that’s what I did, I provided as much as I could. This was my experience in life that I had to go through very gently because if you do anything wrong, you say the wrong thing…it can have consequences.”
Sam Asghari was by Spear's side during the highly publicized #FreeBritney movement and was a steadfast supporter of her battle to lift her conservatorship over the years.
