Katy Perry's former spouse, Russell Brand, spoke candidly about his relationship with the Dark Horse singer. On April 4, 2025, he shared a post on X featuring a video from his Stay Free podcast. He reflected on his marriage and referred to Perry as an "extraordinarily massive star," stating:
“But she is not weird or off-key and wasn’t involved in anything nefarious as far as I could tell and the reasons though, our marriage didn’t work and the normal human reasons. Marriages don’t work and I have nothing but respect for her even though I obviously disagree with her political views.”
Russell Brand shared that he and his wife, Laura, don't always disagree on politics. He went on to express that, in his opinion, Hollywood and popular culture are designed to distract and influence people. He believes there is a powerful and intentional force behind the scenes using media and entertainment to manipulate and control the public.
Russell Brand and Katy Perry were married for almost two years until their divorce was finalized in 2012. However, Vogue magazine noted that the marriage lasted for just 14 months. In 2023, Russell Brand got along with Bear Grylls and praised Katy Perry. Reflecting on their years of marriage, he said:
“That was when I was sort of most in the public eye and working in America. Some aspects of it were like amazing, like she's an amazing person and it was kind of incredible to live for a moment in that eye of the cyclone aspect of fame. Aside from my like sort of feelings of affection for Katy, it's a time that I remember as being a little bit chaotic and a bit for me to speak of myself but a little disconnected.”

During a 2013 interview with Vogue magazine, Katy Perry expressed her views on Russell Brand. Perry stated that she believed Brand was intelligent and that she truly loved him at the time of their marriage. “Hysterical in some ways. Until he started making jokes about me and he didn’t know I was in the audience, because I had come to surprise him at one of his shows. So. Hysterical to a point. I mean, I have to claim my own responsibility in things.”
She went on:
“I do admit that I was on the road a lot. Although I invited him time and time again, and I tried to come home as much as I possibly could. You saw that in the movie.”

“Our marriage didn’t work out for normal, human reasons. I have nothing but respect for her! (Plus, my daughters LOVE Katy Perry).”
