A new documentary based on the final years of Spider-Man co-creator Stan Lee is in the works, per Jon Bolerjack.

The assistant, confidant, and a friend of the Marvel Comics legend made some severe revelations in a recent video. Bolerjack worked closely with Stan Lee during the last four years of his life and claims to have documented him. At the start of the video, he addresses the viewers and says,

“My name is Jon Bolerjack and for the last four years of Stan Lee’s life, I was his assistant, his confidant, but most importantly, his friend. I travelled the world with him, witnessing firsthand the incredible highs of his legendary career, but also the heartbreaking lows…”

Apart from working for the comic book legend, Bolerjack is a creative director at Narrator Inc., an LA-based film marketing firm. He is also a former comic book artist and has worked on various film projects.

In his recent video, Jon talked about working on a documentary about Stan’s life before his demise. He also alleged that the former editor-in-chief at Marvel suffered mistreatment at the hands of people within his inner circle.

The former associate of the late comic book icon delved into the accusations of elder abuse and exploitation in his two-minute and 49-second-long video. Bolerjack claimed,

“Stan spent his final years enduring mistreatment, manipulation, and betrayal at the hands of a few very bad actors…”

He also added,

“At the time, I didn’t have the power to stop it, but I did have a camera and I filmed everything.”

The clip then features glimpses of interviews with different personalities from the industry. The documentary is said to have featured the firsthand accounts of key witnesses of Stan’s mistreatment. Jon brought in the Deadpool creator, Rob Liefeld, and the former editor-in-chief for Marvel Comics, Roy Thomas, to narrate whatever they encountered during the last four years of Stan’s life.

Other comic book artists and writers, including Dustin Nguyen, Mark Waid, Tyler Kirkham, Ben Bishop, and Clayton Crain, also provided their insights on Stan Lee: The Final Chapter. Nguyen described the documentary as “a roller coaster,” while Waid proclaimed how he had “no idea how badly he [Stan Lee] had been exploited. At the same time, Kirkham expressed in the video,

“Seeing Stan in that situation, being taken advantage of was really hard to watch. ‘Cause I just think, you know… I was thinking [about] my parents and my grandparents… This film shows behind the curtain that not a lot of us fans get to see.”

Bishop and Crain also voiced similar emotions about the documentary, which now has a Kickstarter campaign with a goal of $300K. Jon Bolerjack created the fundraiser recently with the following description,

“An insider look at Stan Lee's tumultuous final years, revealing how mistreatment and conflict threatened his life and legacy.”

It is not the first time the allegations of elder abuse have emerged. Months before Stan Lee's death, The Hollywood Reporter published an investigative story about his alleged exploitation and mistreatment.

Jon Bolerjack’s documentary is seemingly focusing on the same reported accusations of abuse. As of this writing, his Kickstarter campaign has received about $38K. The documentary will only receive the funding if it reaches its goal before April 11, 2025.
