Drew Barrymore and Will Kopelman were married for four years, from 2012-2016, and share two kids. In a cover story for AARP The Magazine's February/March 2025 issue, the actress opened up about how she navigated divorce in 2016.
"My dream family was falling apart and I didn't know how to put one foot in front of the other. And I had grown up so fast but now I didn't know what age to feel - I just knew that my life was heavy, and painful and sad - and I sat in that for a while."
In August 2021, Koplman tied the knot with Alexandra Michler while maintaining a co-parenting relationship with Kopelman.
"Eventually, thank goodness, I lifted myself out of it. I had two kids and I had to figure it out."
Drew Barrymore and Will Kopelman's relationship timeline
Drew Barrymore and Will Kopelman sparked dating rumors after the two were spotted grabbing coffee together in January 2011. The two allegedly made their relationship public after they were spotted cuddling at the Lakers' game in April 2011 and moved in together in September 2011.
After dating for a year, the two decided to get engaged in January 2012. Kopelman proposed to her with a radiant-cut diamond in Sun Valley. In February 2012, pregnancy rumors about the two started circulating after the couple were spotted leaving a doctor's office with a sonogram in hand.
A few months later, in June 2012, the two tied the knot in an intimate ceremony at their home in Montecito, California, and welcomed their first child in September 2012. In April 2014, the couple welcomed their second daughter, Frankie.
After four years of marriage, Drew and Will announced that they were divorcing, with sources close to the couple revealing that the couple were having trouble figuring out where to live. While Barrymore preferred Los Angeles, Kopelman wanted to stay in New York City.
Their divorce was finalized in August 2016, and the couple released a joint statement to People saying,
"Sadly, our family is separating legally, although we do not feel this takes away from us being a family. Divorce might make one feel like a failure, but eventually, you start to find grace in the idea that life goes on."
While Drew Barrymore had maintained a private love life, and details about her current status are not made public, Kopelman went on to marry Alexandra Michler in 2021.
