Soon after the award ceremony, the two went on a date in the summer season. However, they had a third wheel, James Marsden, who later revealed details about the couple's romantic evening.
By mid-2002, the two began making public appearances. At that time Harrison Ford was still married to his second wife, Melissa Mathison, as their divorce was not finalized.

After a year of dating Calista Flockhart, Ford admitted to being in love with her. During an interview with Hello! Magazine, the Indiana Jones actor said,

In early 2003, the couple moved in together. Moreover, Ford also adopted Flockhart's son Liam, whom she adopted in 2001. They spent the next few years being there for their son while also maintaining a low profile. Ford also has four more children from his previous two marriages.

During their meeting out in the public, the two were seen sharing a sweet kiss on the subway platform. Flockhart then boarded a train to her Off-Broadway play, while the 82-year-old caught a subway to Columbus Circle.
He even chatted with a fellow passenger and told her how he was taking the subway after a long time.
