Miles Caton's charming debut as Sammie in Ryan Coogler's blockbuster Sinners is definitely one of the biggest highlights of his career. The actor, who played the role of a musical prodigy who unwillingly invites a vampire coven to town, has been lauded as one of the most captivating performances in the film. Originally a musician, Caton found his role while in the middle of a musical journey as well. The actor opened up in a recent interview about how R&B singer H.E.R. motivated him to go for the role in Sinners.
While on a red carpet event, the actor recounted how the singer informed him about the role and how he auditioned hesitantly as he was not well-versed with the guitar. Talking about H.E.R.'s involvement in the process, Caton said,
"I've been touring with H.E.R. since I was 16 years old. Towards the end of the tour, I got a call. She called me one day and she told me that there was a role that she thought I should audition for. It was a young kid playing the guitar. I didn't really know how to play the guitar but I knew I could sing and that was one of the prompts. I just sent in my audition tape and I got a callback."
Miles Caton is the son of gospel singer Timiney Figueroa and has known music all his life, which explains his enthralling performances of music in the film. Caton is currently signed under Artists First as he will continue with his musical career. Seeing his success in Sinners, fans can also expect more projects on screen from the talented debutant.
