How did Dustin Hoffman and wife Lisa Hoffman meet? Relationship explored ahead of couple’s 45th wedding anniversary

Veteran actor Dustin Hoffman and his wife Lisa Hoffman have been serving couple goals for decades. After more than 44 years of marriage, the iconic duo is now stepping together into the 45th year of their marriage. While they are each other's biggest cheerleaders now, their first meeting was not a usual one.

Hoffman and his wife's families were close friends, and therefore, they reportedly met several times throughout their youth before tying the knot. His mother and Lisa's grandmother were friends, and he even played the piano at Lisa's parents' wedding

One particularly memorable meeting happened to take place in the 1960s, when young Lisa danced around the room as the Tootsie star played the piano during a family gathering hosted by her parents. However, when they met, Dustin Hoffman was already in a relationship with actress Anne Byrne. The two tied the knot in 1969 and were together for a decade, sharing a daughter, Jenna, and raising Byrne's daughter Karina from her previous marriage

Meanwhile, the Academy-winning actor's paths crossed once again with Lisa when she was 22 years old, shortly after her grandfather had passed away.

In an interview with DailyMail, Lisa explained further how they met again:

"My grandfather had recently passed away and Dustin came to pay his condolences."

She added how she had been mesmerized by the actor and revealed,

"That first look and I knew."

At the time, Dustin Hoffman and his first Anne Byrne were going through a separation. As his first marriage dissolved, the The Graduate actor grew closer to Lisa. His divorce from Byrne was finalized in 1980, and later that year on October 12, Lisa and Hoffman tied the knot in Connecticut.

Later, the couple went to Hawaii for their honeymoon.

During the interview with the news outlet, Lisa revealed how she wanted Hoffman to wait for her after she danced to his piano recital:

"After we got together, my grandmother reminded me that later that day I had said, 'I hope he waits for me because I want to marry him.'"

The couple has a 17-year age difference. Talking about the secret to their decades-long union, Lisa told Closer Weekly that they would "work hard."

"I knew I was going to end up with Dusty, and that my life would be traveling around with him."

Over the course of their marriage, the two welcomed four children: Jacob, Rebecca, Maxwell, and Alexandra. Lisa has often said that the primary focus that her and Dustin Hoffman would always be their kids and raising them well.

Apart from being a wife and a mother, Lisa is also a successful entrepreneur. In 2007, she founded her luxury fragrance and scented jewelry line, Lisa Hoffman Beauty.

Earlier this week, Dustin Hoffman and Lisa Hoffman were photographed in New York City. They were spotted walking hand-in-hand in the city's NoHo neighborhood.

The couple, who is all set to celebrate their 45 years together later this year, donned some luxurious items of clothing.

The 87-year-old actor wore a dark blue sweatshirt and black pants, and layered the outfit with a matching coat. On the other hand, Lisa opted for earthy tones, as she wore brown pants, a cream-colored jacket, and a white scarf.

This was allegedly a rare sighting of the couple as they do not often step out in public.
