Sean Diddy Combs and UnitedHealthcare CEO’s alleged shooter, Luigi Mangione, have been the talk of the town for a while. However, the two share a unique connection because the lawyers representing them are spouses. Karen Friedman-Agnifilo and Marc Agnifilo are known for their high-profile cases.
While Karen is defending Luigi Mangione in his murder trial, Marc is representing Diddy in his s*x trafficking case. As per Fox News, although Mangione met his legal team over multiple meet-ups, his family had not visited him yet.
He reportedly met Karen Friedman-Agnifilo and Marc Agnifilo on December 13, 2024. Karen will represent him in court after he was charged with second-degree murder following the fatal murder of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson. Besides the two lawyers, he also met attorney Thomas Dickey.
Luigi Mangione was reportedly denied bail last week and is now in custody at the Huntingdon State Correctional Institution. His attorneys have reportedly denied his connections with the CEO's death and said he would plead not guilty to all the charges leveled against him.
Karen Friedman-Agnifilo brings 30 years of experience in criminal justice, litigation, and trials, specializing in criminal defense in state and federal courts. The media outlet stated that she had previously handled serious violent crime cases, including complex homicides.
Here’s what the lawyers said about Luigi Mangione and Diddy’s arrest
Karen Friedman-Agnifilo was a top prosecutor previously but left her position in 2021 to start a private practice. Luigi Mangione’s attorney served as Manhattan District Attorney Cyrus Vance's deputy for seven years, earning a reputation for handling complex cases while leading the sex crimes unit. As per a statement by a New York prosecutor to CNN US:
“She’s got as much experience as any human being, especially in the state court. She knows every corridor, every judge, every clerk in the courthouse.”
The police gathered evidence that connected Mangione to the crime scene. He had a 3D-printed gun whose shell casings matched with those recovered by the police. While speaking about Luigi Mangione’s arrest with CNN, she said the evidence the police have gathered could be a problem. However, her statement came before she was hired to represent Mangione. She said:
“It looks to me like this. There might be a not guilty by reason of insanity defense that they are going to be thinking about because the evidence is going to be so overwhelming that he did what he did.”
Regarding Diddy’s arrest in September 2024, Marc Agnifilo told People Magazine that the hip-hop mogul was an innocent person who had nothing to conceal. During a CNN interview in September 2024, Marc said Diddy was not surprised by his arrest because:
“I told him myself in early September you are going to be arrested soon and you are going to be charged with racketeering and even charged with s*x trafficking so come to New York. It wasn’t a long conversation. He agreed. So, we knew this was coming.”
Luigi Mangione will appear at a preliminary hearing on December 23, 2024, while Diddy’s trial will begin on May 5, 2025.
