Emma D’Arcy, who rose to fame for their Golden-globe nominated performance in House of the Dragon, has landed another major role. Deadline reports that D'Arcy will be joining the cast of Birdman director Alejandro González Iñárritu's upcoming untitled film alongside Tom Cruise.
After the announcement, Emma D'Arcy told Deadline:
“I’m delighted to be working with such extraordinary and exacting artists as Alejandro and Tom. They are the masters of their craft, and witnessing them in combination has been a privilege.”
Legendary Pictures and Warner Bros are backing this high-profile project that has been in the works for over a year. The filming reportedly began at the end of 2024 and is currently in process at Pinewood Studios in the U.K. Iñárritu also serves as a co-producer with Tom Cruise; and as a co-writer with his Oscar-winning collaborators Alexander Dinelaris Jr. and Nicolás Giacobone. Journalist Sabina Berman (Gloria, Backyard) is also a part of the writing team.
According to the official synopsis shared by Deadline, Iñárritu's latest film revolves around,
“the most powerful man in the world [who] embarks on a frantic mission to prove he is humanity’s savior before the disaster he’s unleashed destroys everything.”
In addition to Tom Cruise and Emma D’Arcy, the cast includes,

Emma D’Arcy joins Alejandro González Iñárritu's upcoming English-language film

Multiple Oscar-winning filmmaker Alejandro González Iñárritu, is acclaimed for his works such as his debut feature film Amores Perros, besides 21 Grams, Babel, Biutiful, Birdman The Revenant, and Bardo: False Chronicle of a Handful of Truths. His upcoming project, starring Cruise and Emma D’Arcy, marks his comeback to English language projects.
The film will also marks cinematographer Emmanuel Lubezki's return as Iñárritu's collaborator. Lubezki has shot most of his films, except the 2022's Bardo, and has been nominated for eight Oscars. He has won three Academy Awards, two of which are for Iñárritu collaborations.
Tom Cruise, who leads the film, will soon appear at the Cannes Film Festival for Christopher McQuarrie's Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning. It will be screened as a part of the Out of Competition section.
Emma D’Arcy, who joins Cruise and other A-listers, made a name for themselves through their acclaimed work in theater, film, and television. They will return as Queen Rhaenyra Targaryen in HBO's Game of Thrones spin-off, House of the Dragon, in 2026.
