Gamers can delight as the beloved role-playing video game Horizon Zero Dawn is getting a movie adaptation. A TV series was initially planned for Netflix, but then the project never went ahead with it. Head of PlayStation Productions, Asad Qizilbash, confirmed the news during the CES press conference.

Although it is among the top-rated games, with a Steam score sitting at 9 out of 10, it failed to win the Game of the Year award. However, it did win a number of accolades, including but not limited to Best Storytelling at The Independent Game Developers' Association Awards, Best Original Game at Game Critics Awards, Best PlayStation Game and Golden Joystick Awards, and more.

Sony's Asad revealed that Columbia Pictures and PlayStation Productions are developing the film. He said,

"I am excited to be able to reveal for the first time here today. Columbia Pictures and PlayStation Productions are at the early stages of developing a film adaptation of the award winning Horizon Zero Dawn."

This announcement came following the presentation of another project associated with the video game made using Unreal Engine. Asad explained that they used it to expand their horizons with the help of an artist going by the name of MXMTOON.

Horizon Zero Dawn is set in an apocalyptic United States, which is one of the favorite settings among the creators, where people live in a world thrived by machines. It is sort of a mixed setting that infuses the primeval and futuristic advancements together.

The game later received a sequel dubbed Horizon Forbidden West in 2022, picking up the story where Horizon New Dawn ended. The story mainly focuses around Aloy, a girl who is deemed a hunter at heart but has a soft side for the machines going about their day in the video game.

Sony didn't announce who was going to be in the film's cast, but Ashly Burch gave her voice to the character. Lance Reddick, the John Wick actor who took his last breath on March 17, 2023, later joined her in voicing Sylens.

Apart from Horizon Zero Dawn, Sony announced that Arrowhead Game Studios' is getting a film adaptation too. The game instantly became a hit among the players and crashed during its initial run, given that a barrage of gamers were flocking in the fight for democracy.
