It’s said that the true testament of a person’s legacy is how people remember them once they’re gone. With the tragic demise of heavyweight boxing legend George Foreman, the outpouring of kind words from his contemporaries, family members, and scores of fans, proves he left a positive and indelible mark on the world of sports and beyond.
Among those to pay tribute to the late boxer was former heavyweight boxing icon Mike Tyson, who never faced Foreman in the ring, but shared a relationship with him outside of it. Tyson admits that the legend's "contribution to boxing will never be forgotten" as Foreman’s standing as an all-time great will be cemented forever.
Tyson and others react to George Foreman’s passing
Tyson’s tweet included two pictures of the pair, showing a mutual respect and playfulness between the two legends. The tweet in its entirety read as follows.
“Condolences to George Foreman’s family. His contribution to boxing and beyond will never be forgotten.”
Apart from Tyson, several other notable figures who were touched in some way by Foreman’s legacy took to social media to express their grief and share some kind words about the late icon.
Actor John Cusack remembered Foreman with the utmost regard in a tweet that read:
“Rip George Foreman - Beyond a legend in the ring - just a wonderful spirit - an incredibly kind generous man - in person I always remember every encounter with great gratitude - it was an honor to know him.”
Former NBA player and multi-time champion Scottie Pippen took to X to share some words as well:
“Rest in peace, George Foreman. Your legacy lives on, champ.”
His family also released an official statement, highlighting that Foreman will truly be missed:
“With profound sorrow, we announce the passing of our beloved George Edward Foreman Sr, who peacefully departed on March 21, 2025, surrounded by loved ones. He lived a life marked by unwavering faith, humility, and purpose."
The statement continues:
"Humanitarian, an Olympian, and two time heavyweight champion of the world, he was deeply respected - a force for good, a man of discipline, conviction, and a protector of his legacy, fighting tirelessly to preserve his good name - for his family. We are grateful for the outpouring of love and prayers, and kindly ask for privacy as we honor the extraordinary life of a man we were blessed to call our own.”
