Anthony Mackie's "Captain America: Brave New World" received mixed reviews from the public. Fans were both excited and disappointed by the film, which launched Sam Wilson as the MCU's new Captain America. As reviews continue to roll in, Hideo Kojima has shared his first reaction to the film, expressing confusion over its events.
Taking to X, the Japanese video game designer wrote:
"I watched Captain America: Brave New World in IMAX. I vaguely remember Sam receiving the shield in Endgame, but when did he officially become Cap? Is it because I haven't seen The Falcon and the Winter Soldier? And what's this about the Avengers being reorganized? I'm also getting it mixed up with the Thunderbolts trailer."
Fans in the comment section attended to his confusion as they tried to explain the events surrounding the film, making it easier for Kojima to understand.
Apart from that, many users also expressed their disappointment in the film as they wrote about the film's lack of wow factors and how they're not on board with Wilson becoming the new captain.
Kojima is the creator of Metal Gear and is highly regarded as the person who initiated and created the stealth genre with his games. He is also known for being the man behind multiple highly successful games, such as the Zone of the Enders series, Snatcher, and Policenauts.
What was Captain America: Brave New World about?
The new phase of Marvel had a strong focus on the new heroes (and antiheroes) that the studio would announce for fans, and the whole procession was led by Anthony Mackie's Captain America who has taken over Steve Rogers' responsibilities as the new captain. The film focuses on Wilson's first attempts at being Captain, while also attempting to foil a global terror plan and dealing with the new President, Thaddeus Thunderbolt Ross.
The film was also an important project in the sense that it introduced Ross' Red Hulk to fans. The new antagonist has been a long-awaited member of characters fans have wanted to see on-screen. Apart from that, the film also hinted that a new team of Avengers might be cooking under Ross' nose as he talks about wanting to reassemble the Avengers.
Unfortunately, the film didn't receive the opening it probably wished for as it opened to a sleeper audience who called the film out to be bland, with many even criticizing Mackie's role as Captain America. Beneath all this, Harrison Ford was one of the worthwhile highlights of the film as he brought the Red Hulk to life.
Captain America: Brave New World is available in theaters.
