Dua Lipa performed Believe alongside Cher and The Roots at the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony.
After the performance, the singer took to her Instagram page on October 20 and expressed gratitude in sharing the stage with the legendary Cher.
The post featured Dua Lipa, Cher and Zendaya smiling for a picture, along with a series of photos of Lipa on stage with Cher. In the caption she mentioned,
"An absolute honor to pay tribute last night to the ICON & LEGEND @cher as she gets inducted into the @rockhall (about bloody timeeee if you ask me)!!!! grateful beyond words to have shared the stage with @cher and @theroots to sing "Believe" what a dream come true!!!! - PINCH ME PLEASE- "
After the performance was posted by Pop Base on X, netizens took to the comment section expressing disappointment over Lipa's performance with many noting that that Lipa's singing was off key.
"It’s giving karaoke bar performance at best ☹️" - commented a netizen
"I’m more of a Dua fan; but that doesn’t mean I admire Cher’s legacy. But this is honestly bad. No chemistry in their voices whatsoever. They both should’ve done a solo performance not a collab. But that’s just my opinion. Whoever enjoyed this, well good for them." - another user opined
"Cher didn't need any help. Especially from someone who can't si-- Anyway." - another user noted
"Ugh, she was struggling with hitting those tones.😳" - said another user
"Oh wow no, yeah, this is abhorrent I’m appalled. Clearly no rehearsal. Dua don’t sound good, it’s awkward… hmm wow I’m kinda hmmm" - another user said
More about Dua Lipa and Cher
The two singers taking over the stage together at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony comes after Cher responded to a post on X in August 2022, which called Dua Lipa the "the Cher of our generation".
One user in the now deleted X post, replied with side-by-side photos of Cher and the Levitating singer, where both of them wore white form-fitting gowns. In the caption, the user wrote "Dua Lipa, the Cher of our generation." After another user replied to the tweet by tagging both the stars and saying "So much truth in one Tweet", Cher while replying to both users said,
"How many yrs are in a generation (thinking emoji)"
Her response went viral with netizens noting that musicians who topped the charts in decades past should not be compared to younger performers, since the latter haven't reached their level yet.
