Wendy Williams, the famous talk show host, was recently seen out in New York City with close friends and colleagues, including her former The Wendy Williams Show producer, Suzanne Bass. Williams, 60, visited Fresco by Scotto, a popular Manhattan spot, on Friday, April 11.
Dressed in a black gown and smiling with friends, the former celebrity host appeared to be enjoying herself. A celebratory dessert, topped with sparklers and fresh berries, was presented to celebrate their outing. Suzanne Bass took to Instagram to celebrate their reunion, where she captioned a post saying:
"A long overdue lunch with our dear old friend Wendy…her light still shines so bright… love"
The dinner outing comes at a time of renewed public attention on Williams’ legal guardianship, which was issued by a court after she was diagnosed with frontotemporal dementia (FTD) and primary progressive aphasia, diseases that affect communication and the mind.
She has lived in an assisted living home in New York City since 2023. Control over her health decisions as well as finances are currently under the care of her court-appointed guardian, Sabrina Morrissey.
Wendy Williams has spoken against the guardianship, saying it was initially voluntary but grew too constraining. In a recent interview with People, she said that it has long been overdue for the arrangement to be over.
"When I get out of the situation, I'm staying in New York where I'm comfortable. I'll be in New York and I'll be flying and I would love to go back to Paris. The food is good." She said in a statement.
More about Wendy Williams’ guardianship battle and her friendship with Suzanne Bass
Suzanne Bass, a former co-executive producer of The Wendy Williams Show, recently spoke out on Instagram, blasting Williams’ guardianship as “horrible” and “terrifying.” Bass noted that the pair had not spoken in years but recently reconnected.
"My phone rang, and it was Wendy. I cried, she cried. this horrible guardianship she’s in… it is horrible and it’s terrifying. And so, #FreeWendy all the way, all day."
Wendy Williams has pushed back against the narrative of her health, denying that she is incapacitated. At a public rally outside her assisted living facility earlier this month, she had dismissed reports that she would be tested medically soon.
However, her guardian, Morrissey, alleges that an MRI and neuropsychological assessment were arranged on March 21, but Williams purportedly refused to take part. Williams’ legal representatives are asserting that the former host has already successfully cleared hospital-administered mental capacity tests.
