Congresswoman Jasmine Crockett has been called out by singer Azealia Banks over her comments targeting Governor Greg Abbott. In her criticism of Crockett, Banks accused the Congresswoman of being drunk during her speech and suggested that the Congresswoman wanted to be the only influential black woman in politics.
In her rant post on X (formerly Twitter), the "212" singer said:
"Her drunk rant was so lame she highkey just wants to be the coveted black woman in the White House."
In her seemingly humorous attempt to distance other black women from Jasmine Crockett, she argued against the generalization of all black women based on the Congresswoman's actions.
"Please don’t say Jasmine Crockett is making black women look bad . We don’t all deserve to accept responsibility for her individual shanaynayism, unplucked closure pieces, zara chanel tweed, “Brazilian” wigs and penchant for sutter home individual wine boxes. I promise we don’t all drink unironically drink Riesling in 16oz servings not knowing it’s a desert wine. I promise we don’t all have hot sauce in our purses."
She further added:
"I bet if they turn around and invite her for a McDonald’s picnic at the White House she’s wearing her best 2005 pair of Giuseppe Zanotti’s , her shiniest aldo clutch, her QVC swarovski set, and going to eat them fries COLD honey."
In her tweet, Banks also added that Omarosa Manigault Newman, who served as the White House Director of Communications during Trump's first term in 2017 before being dismissed, is a more influential leader than Congresswoman Jasmine Crockett.
"Ugh, but she’s right about a black woman in the White House and that would be the iconic legendary Omarosa. That was the only person in the world who was truly Trumps friend. Lmao not even Melania cares about Trump the way Omarosa did."
More about Jasmine Crockett's comments as Congresswoman faces backlash over remarks in governor Greg Abbott
On 22 March, Jasmine Crockett attended a gala dinner hosted by the Human Rights Campaign, where she gave a speech. During her speech, Crockett reffered to Texas Governor, Greg Abbott as "Hot wheels."
She said:
"Y’all know we got Gov. Hot Wheels down there. Come on now. And the only thing hot about him is that he is a hot ass mess, honey.”
The comments drew widespread criticism from Republicans, including US Senator John Cornyn, National Republican Congressional Committee spokesperson Mike Marinella, and Attorney General Ken Paxton.
In the latest development, Representative Randy Weber announced his intention to censure Jasmine Crockett for her remarks against the Governor. The censure resolution is merely a show of disapproval and shall not affect the Senator's ability to hold her office.
Governor Gregg Abbot, who was paralyzed from the waist down after an accident in 1984 when a tree fell on him while he was out running, also responded to Crockett's comments.
He said:
"It's another day and another disaster by the Democrats. The reality is they have no vision, no policy. They have nothing to sell but hate, and Americans are not buying it.
The former public defender has since clarified her remarks, stating that her comments were aimed at Governor Abbot's policies rather than his condition.
"I wasn't thinking about the governor's condition -- I was thinking about the planes, trains, and automobiles he used to transfer migrants into communities led by Black mayors, deliberately stoking tension and fear among the most vulnerable. Literally, the next line I said was that he was a "hot a-- Mess," referencing his terrible policies."
She further added:
"Finally, this is yet another distraction. Instead of obsessing over and hanging on to my every word, maybe my political foes should focus on doing the work of the people who elected us to improve their lives. At no point did I mention or allude to his condition. So, I'm even more appalled that the very people who unequivocally support Trump -- a man known for racially insensitive nicknames and mocking those with disabilities -- are now outraged."
Amidst this, Trump has called out Jasmine Crockett, referring to her as "a low IQ person."
