NLE Choppa, on December 22, took to his Instagram account with costume photos for his new album cover. He was seen wearing what looked like a shiny bronze costume, resembling Michael Jackson's shiny golden costume. He also posted a picture of Michael Jackson in the last thread, indicating where he took his inspiration from.
The caption read;
"Help Me Choose My Album Cover for the 24th (smirk emoji) "PICASSO: SLUFFIN SZN X SLUT SZN"
He also tagged the brand behind the outfit: Luar. The artist recently dropped a brand new single, Don't Walk Away.
After photos of his costume were reposted by The Shade Room on Instagram, netizens took to the comment section to express their disapproval. While some mentioned that his costume does not resemble Michael Jackson's, others pointed out that it looks like "foil paper."
NLE Choppa calls himself the "Michael Jackson of Hip-Hop"
NLE Choppa's recent Michael Jackson-inspired costume isn't the first time the rapper has associated himself with Jackson. In September 2024, the Memphis singer, in a social media post, featured a video from his recent performance in Canada, where he can be seen dancing to his new hit, "Slut Me Out 2." The singer could be seen moonwalking to his beats.
He captioned the post saying,
"Michael Jackson of Hip Hop. Point Blank Period."
While speaking to Power 106 Los Angeles in December 2021, the singer opened up about becoming a father, his upcoming album, and who his fans compare him with. While calling out Jackson's name, Choppa mentioned,
"I don't know, I feel like I get a lot of Michael Jackson 'cause of the type of energy I bring. Somebody even said I look like him, (but) I don't know about that...And I get 2Pac, too, because of what I stand for, what type of principles I stand for outside of music. With me, it's not about the music all the time, it's about who I can impact. Whose life I can change."
Later, Choppa clarified that the comparisons have nothing to do with him "musically" and mean more to everything he stands for "outside of it."
