UnitedHealthcare CEO murder suspect, Luigi Mangione's walk to federal prison, clad in an orange jumpsuit and flanked by a dozen cops, as well as the New York City Mayor Eric Adams, is doing the rounds online. Users are now comparing the scene to that of a still from Henry Cavill's Superman, where he, too, can be seen stuck in a similar situation.
Luigi Mangione is currently dealing with charges relating to the murder of Brian Thompson, including murder via the use of a firearm, two charges of stalking, and a firearms offense, as per CNN. Nonetheless, users online have since begun lauding the suspected gunman, with many noting that he even looks "cool" in several of his shots. Here's what one user commented:
"The police making him look cool every single shot im crying."
Other users, too, concurred:
"They unintentionally gave him one of the coldest pics of the entire year," one user commented.
"Superman is on the left guys… Luigi is on the right," another joked.
"The hero we needed not the hero we wanted though," a user wrote.
"They are making him look cool in every shot, no pun intended.." yet another user echoed.
The comments didn't end there, as scores online pointed out that the 26-year-old looked "cool" in his photos:
"coldest pics of the entire year," one user declared.
"He gotta drop a first day out song and use this for the cover," another suggested.
"The fact that his own security is more than that of superman," someone else pointed out.
"It's so cinematic that i can't even," one more added.
The masses online were visibly under the impression that the parallels between Luigi and Superman's walkover were eerily similar.
What we know about Luigi Mangione's legal proceedings as he showed up to court for the first time this Thursday
According to CNN, Luigi Mangione made his first appearance in a federal court on Thursday, December 19, 2024. It was there that his federal criminal complaint was unsealed to reveal the charges he is facing.
As per the New York Post, the alleged gunman walked into the courtroom sporting "civilian clothes," including a white shirt, a black sweater with a quarter zip, a pair of tan khakis, and orange prison shoes. He had a "12" plastered on his right foot, and while he was not in handcuffs, his ankles were shackled.
According to the media outlet, Luigi Mangione remained calm throughout the proceedings, answering "yes" when Magistrate Judge Katharine Parker read him his rights and charges and asked him if he understood the same. The outlet also reports that Karen Friedman Agnifilo is leading Mangione's legal counsel.
UnitedHealth Group CEO, Brian Thompson, was gunned down multiple times in broad daylight on December 4, 2024.
