Rapper Method Man is making headlines for allegedly beating up his daughter's ex-boyfriend at a Crunch Fitness outlet in Staten Island, New York. The actor cum member of the Wu-Tang Clan reportedly docked Patrick Sokoya, 28, in the face seven times "with a closed fist."
Per The New York Post, the alleged altercation stemmed from a relationship Sokoya had with the rapper's daughter over a decade ago. However, a representative for the rapper told The Post via email,
“Mr. Smith categorically denies the allegations as reported and has not been the subject of an arrest by any law enforcement agency."
Nonetheless, news of the same has since been going viral on X (formerly Twitter), with scores online giving their two cents on the situation.
"He did nothing wrong. FREE HIM," one user commented.
Another user (@isthat_slim) demanded that he be freed because he was seemingly just standing up for his daughter:
"Free him. Idc about any extra info. Man beating up his daughter ex? Let’s give a round of applause and move on."
The comments section was riddled with chatter:
"There’s no smoke without fire, i think method man is innocent," one user opined.
"That dude did whatever Method Man beat his a** for. If somebody smokes that much weed and still holds a grudge for a decade, you did some maniacal sh*t," someone theorized.
"Dont need to hear the story; Method was in the right," one more echoed.
Even more chimed in with their opinions:

"What dude do to his daughter is the question," someone pointed out.
"Meth doesn't do things randomly, bro must've deserved it," yet another claimed.
"You had to do something crazy for method to hold a grudge against you," someone else pointed out.
"Whoa, looks like Method Man took 'parenting' to a whole new level. I guess he thought he was auditioning for a role in a new action movie called 'Dad's Got Your Back!' I mean, who needs a bodyguard when you have a dad who can drop bars and fists?" one user asked.
The masses online were seemingly on Method Man's side, with many asserting that there was no way the rapper would hold a grudge for a decade if it weren't for a good reason.
All we know about the alleged altercation between Method Man and his daughter's ex-boyfriend
Per The New York Post, rapper Method Man, whose real name is Clifford Smith, punched the alleged victim until he was in pain, though he refused medical attention while at the gym. While a complaint was filed, Smith had not yet been arrested.
As for his daughter, Cheyenne, she is now following in her father's footsteps and becoming a rapper. She goes by the stage name Chey and is known for her tracks "Hair and Nails" and "Boujee & Ghetto." Speaking on Sway's Universe back in April 2024, she reflected on what it was like choosing this career and what she learned from her father:
"I kind of tapped into my dad for that because he’s been in this industry for so long. And you know, everybody’s not always going to have the nicest thing to say,” she said. “There’s going to be one person that’s going to find the best thing and one person who’s going to find the worst thing. So what he taught me to do is just stay above all of that. I know the truth, I know my heart, I know what I’m putting out there. I know it’s no negativity because that’s just not who I am as a person. So if somebody says that, go ahead, do what you’ve got to do. And if somebody believes you, do what you have to do. Because I know who I am, my fans know who I am, and my family knows who I am. That’s all that really matters to me.”
Apart from being a rapper, the rapper is also a prolific actor with over 130 credits to his name on IMDb.
