President-elect Donald Trump and incumbent President Joe Biden vowed to make the transition between administrations smooth this January, as the two met at the White House for a long-standing tradition on Wednesday. In his address, Trump appreciated Biden for facilitating the same.

However, the internet was as brutal as ever, with many claiming that when Trump lost in the 2020 elections, he instigated the Capitol Riot. Here's how one user reacted:

"Trump saying this when he literally instigated an insurrection when he lost to joe biden back in 2020….…"

Several more chimed in to point out that things were not always so great between the two presidents:

"oh he's being nice? the same man that ran him mouth about joe his entire campaign???? yea he cheated DOWN," another claimed.
"But trump didn't make it smooth for Biden in the last elections," another pointed out.
"He's only saying this cause he's president cause if we look what happened when he was voted out," someone else stated.
"I'm sure Joe appreciated Jan 6th, that was a very smooth transition.." yet another stated, sarcastically.

Scores online echoed the sentiments:

"Jan 6th would like a word," one user quipped.
"funny how the transition is going to be smooth now, with Trump getting back into power. but when it was Biden getting into power four years ago, Trump wasn’t very cooperative…. i dislike both of these men, but at least Biden didn’t try a coup," another stated.
"Trump is that friend that's only super nice when you're doing something for them," someone claimed online.
"My brother in christ, you're the one making politics not a very nice world," another jested.

Many online asserted that it was Trump who was making the world of politics "not very nice."

Donald Trump and Joe Biden shake hands and wish each other well

On Wednesday, November 13, Biden took to the stage to welcome the MAGA administration at the White House. He said, while greeting the President-elect with a firm handshake,

"Donald, congratulations. I look forward… to having a smooth transition. We'll do everything we can to make sure you're accommodated, what you need."

Donald Trump went second, speaking in front of the cameras and reporters who were allowed to come in for a short while to record the exchange:

"Thank you very much. Politics is tough. And it’s, in many cases, not a very nice world. But it is a nice world today and I appreciate it very much.”

Just last week, Trump made his political comeback with a landslide victory over Kamala Harris. He flew in for the meeting from Florida, marking his return to the White House for the first time in about four years.

Trump has spent years denigrating Biden and calling into question his mental well-being and acuity. When Joe Biden bowed out of this year's race, Trump re-directed his attacks towards Vice President Kamala Harris.

Biden, on the other hand, has time and again asserted that should Trump be re-elected, he would pose a threat to the very fabric of democracy. Notably, Biden himself wasn't given an invitation for a meeting at the White House when he came out on top in 2020.
