Singer and songwriter Jennifer Lopez aspired to have Bruno Mars at her wedding. However, her wish wasn’t fulfilled. In a recent interview with The Skinny Confidential, author and wedding planner Marcy Blum discussed some of her experiences from organizing celebrity weddings.

As the interview progressed, host Lauryn Bosstick asked Blum about the most extravagant incident that shocked her. She said it’s the price of headliners. Marcy Blum then shared an incident from Jennifer Lopez’s wedding to basketball shortstop Alex Rodriguez aka A-Rod. Blum said:

“We were working with J.Lo and A-Rod before they broke up and we were going through a list of musicians and she goes, ‘What about Bruno Mars?’ I said, ‘We just worked with him and he’s five.’”

For context, Bruno Mars charged $5 million to perform at weddings. Blum added that this fee would only cover his performance for nearly an hour. This news came as a shock not only to Jennifer Lopez but to netizens too. Some attributed the reason for charging so much was because he was in debt back then. One X user wrote:

“he was just tryna get out of debt leave him alone.”

Jennifer Lopez got engaged to A-Rod in 2019, but their wedding plans were halted due to the COVID-19 pandemic. However, in April 2021, the couple parted ways, saying they were better off as friends.

Netizens appeared shocked at Jennifer Lopez for not being able to afford Bruno Mars

Internet users were surprised to know that Jennifer Lopez was shocked at Bruno Mars’ fee for performing at weddings. While many questioned why she couldn’t afford him, others noted that not hiring the That’s What I Like singer was a good decision, calling it smart money management.

“so they both couldn’t afford bruno to perform? LMAOOO,” a social media user noted.
“He wanted 5mil for 45mins-1hr. Even if you have the money that’s ridiculous. Not hiring him, even if they had gotten married, is smart money management,” another netizen claimed.
“Come on JLo, you should be able to afford that right?” a person asked on X.

X users appeared equally shocked to know the amount Bruno Mars charged for the wedding performances. However, others defended the singer saying he had the right to charge so much as his performance was more about giving an experience to the audience.

“I am with Bruno on this one !! You’re not just paying for a performance; you’re paying for the experience !! Not to mention, JLo collects ceremonies like Grammys !!” an internet user reacted.
“Yall saying “ $5m is light work to her .. she can’t afford it or sum? ” it’s not about if she can afford it. Maybe his rates is out of her ballpark .. I’m pretty sure no one in the comments including myself has made $5m dollars in the life,” an online user pointed out.
“Maybe that's a polite way of celebrities saying no each other?” another X user suggested.

Jennifer Lopez once said she would take Bruno Mars in a dance battle

Jennifer Lopez was the executive producer of the reality competition World of Dance. In 2018, while speaking to Entertainment Weekly about the show’s upcoming season, J.Lo was asked who she would face off in a dance-off between Justin Timberlake and Bruno Mars.

She said that she would take both. However, after replying, she appeared confused as she asked:

“No, wait did you mean we battle them or them battling each other?”

The host clarified the situation as her battling either of them in a dance performance. Jennifer Lopez then mentioned that she would take both of them, saying she would stick by her original answer.

Earlier this year, the songstress attended a Bruno Mars concert in Los Angeles where she was seen dancing to his song Marry You in the viral videos. Reports suggested that the day also happened to be her ex-partner Ben Affleck’s birthday.

She filed for divorce in August 2024 and mentioned they had already separated in April 2024. The couple was in a relationship twice from 2002 to 2004 and then again from 2021 to 2024.
