Lil Durk, 32, who is currently behind bars pending his transfer into federal custody, was hit with charges involving murder-for-hire. However, his son, Zayden Banks, took to Instagram on October 28 to defend his father. The rapper has been named as the engineer behind the attempted hit on Quando Rondo in November 2022.
In his post, a 10-year-old Banks said,
"I want to take a moment to stand up for my dad, Durk Banks. He has always dedicated his life to uplifting others and giving back to our community through his nonprofit organization, Neighborhood Heroes. Beyond that, he is a great father who has always supported and loved our family unconditionally.”
Zayden Banks thanks the Chicago Mayor for "standing" with Lil Durk
Durk went to court in Miami alongside his father and his lawyer, Alex Ubieta. His next hearing is slated to take place in the Central District of California. The Chicago rapper was reportedly cuffed by U.S. Marshals in Broward County, Florida, and he is currently detained without bond.
The Instagram post continued:
"Right now, he is facing challenges, but I want to affirm that he has not been convicted of any charges and remains innocent until proven otherwise. During this difficult time, I ask for your support for him and all the good he continues to do.”
In referencing the accompanying video of Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson speaking out on Durk's arrest, he went on:
"I would also like to extend my heartfelt thanks to the mayor for standing with my dad. His speech was well said and truly reflects the community’s support for those who strive to make a positive impact. Thank you, everyone!"
According to BCK Online, Mayor Johnson weighed in on Lil Durk's alleged crimes:
"I don’t operate in feelings, you know, I operate in truth and justice. And I don’t know all the circumstances around these accusations. If you’re asking me, if I should make a judgment on a Black man before a full trial has actually come to fruition, I hope you do understand why it is not my position to determine the outcome of someone’s life.”
Lil Durk allegedly placed a bounty on Quando Rondo's head
According to multiple reports, Lil Durk allegedly placed a bounty on Quando Rondo's head in retaliation for the slaying of one of his OTF members, King Von. Von and Rondo got into a physical altercation back in 2020 outside a nightclub in Atlanta, and the former's associate, Lul Timm, pulled out a gun and shot Von to death.
Lil Durk was cuffed not long after five members of his hip-hop group, OTF, were apprehended in Chicago in relation to the same. These include Kavon London Grant, Deandre Dontrell Wilson, Keith Jones, David Brian Lindsey, and Asa Houston. All five men were charged with federal crimes in California.
Charges against the five men range from conspiracy to commit murder-for-hire, committing murder-for-hire involving a death to use of a machine gun in a violent crime resulting in death. Should they be convicted, the possibility of a maximum penalization entails execution.
