Batman has arguably the richest rogues gallery of any superhero in the history of comics and film. The success of characters like the Joker, Harley Quinn, Two-Face, and The Penguin has emboldened DC Studios to delve even deeper into their roster of foes and anti-heroes in upcoming productions across all formats.

In their latest attempt at showcasing their expansive portfolio of villains, DC has announced the Clayface movie which has quickly gathered momentum, with Mike Flanagan already having penned the script and horror filmmaker James Watkins set to direct. The most interesting news regarding the film comes by way of The Insneider where it is claimed that rumors suggest Harry Potter star, Daniel Radcliffe, is one of two actors currently being eyed to play the titular lead.

Radcliffe's name has notably also been swirled around online in response to rumors of who could potentially take the mantle of Marvel's Wolverine.

Clayface: What We Know So Far?

While the film’s plot remains firmly under wraps, the choice of scriptwriter and director seems to hint at the project potentially leaning heavily toward its horror elements tonally. The character appears first as Basil Karlo, an aspiring actor who never fully broke through as a result of his looks. In desperation, he seeks a fix and winds up injecting himself with a compound that grants him shape-shifting abilities.

It also leaves him permanently disfigured which causes him to lash out at anyone standing in his way. This tragic tale has seen many variations over the years in comics and television, all with subtle twists that define the troubled soul. Most recently Clayface appeared in Amazon Prime’s Batman: Caped Crusader.

The complexity of the character requires a nuanced and deliberate performance, and Daniel Radcliffe seems to have the ability to deliver. He has shown his wide artistic range since moving on from the Harry Potter franchise, with standout performances in The Woman in Black, Swiss Army Man, and Horns. Radcliffe is also no stranger to playing the villain as evidenced in his roles in magic caper Now You See Me 2 and in 2022’s The Lost City starring Sandra Bullock and Channing Tatum.

DCU Upcoming Slate

As of now, Clayface is scheduled to be released in theatres on September 11, 2026. DC Studios has several other projects currently in development, but has confirmed Superman, Peacemaker Season Two, The Sandman Season Two, and Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow to lead into the Clayface release in the fall of next year.
