Avengers: Doomsday will see the light of the day, but Steve Rogers won't be there to fight the evils of the world anymore. According to the reports, Chris Evans, who played the iconic Captain America will not be returning to Marvel. So, his fans will have to make peace with the absence of their favorite superhero.

The upcoming Captain America: Brave New World will go ahead without Steve Rogers as Sam Wilson will take over his responsibilities. Wilson's Captain America will fight against Red Hulk and will try to save the day. Still, with the announcement of newer Avengers projects, the fans held on to the hopes of Chris Evans' return as Steve Rogers. However, that won't happen according to Evans himself.

While talking about the claims about his return to the Marvel Universe in Avengers: Doomsday, Chris Evans said:

“This always happens. I mean, it happens every couple of years — ever since ‘Endgame.’ I’ve just stopped responding to it. Yeah, no — happily retired!”

Chris Evans denies returning to the MCU for Avengers: Doomsday

The new Captain America movie is moving forward without Chris Evans' Steve Rogers. It didn't bode well with his fans who believed he would return to one or the other Marvel project. There was also some chatter about his return in the upcoming Marvel projects like Avengers: Doomsday.

So, Anthony Mackie was asked whether these reports held any weight. While speaking with Esquire Magazine, Mackie said:

“I didn’t know! I talked to Chris a few weeks ago and it wasn’t on the table then. At least, he didn’t tell me it was on the table, because I asked him. I was like, ‘You know, they said they’re bringing everyone back for the movie. Are you coming back?’ He goes, ‘Oh, you know, I’m happily retired.’”

He further added:

“I learned that right there. My manager showed me. He’s like, ‘Oh, so I guess Chris is coming back.’ That’s all I know. I haven’t seen a script.”

Shortly after, Chris Evans spoke with the Esquire Magazine and debunked Mackie's claims. Evans denied the reports of his return and said that he is "happily retired".

It is a bitter pill to swallow for the MCU fans, who have grown fond of Evans' Captain America. Evans first played Steve Rogers in Captain America: The First Avenger, which followed the origin story of this shielded warrior. He later reprised this role in multiple Captain America and Avengers projects. However, he reportedly won't be in Avengers: Doomsday.
