Is Cate Blanchett retiring? Actress reveals surprising plans about her acting future

Cate Blanchett has led a successful career of over two decades in the film industry, owning characters across different genres and scripts and making a name for herself as one of the most talented actresses Hollywood has had the privilege to host. Starting off as Susan Macarthy in Paradise Road, Blanchett has had a diverse set of roles spanning decades and generations, and at 55, she's stronger than ever.

Recently seen in The Black Bag, the actress is now opening up on her future as an actress and if she will continue working on her craft. Although she has previously spoken about retiring as well, this time her statement sounds more definite as he opened up about leaving acting to focus on other things.

Speaking to The Standard, Blanchett said,

“My family roll their eyes every time I say it, but I mean it. I am serious about giving up acting. (There are) a lot of things I want to do with my life.”

She then continued on how certain parts of being famous don't sit right with her as she added,

“When you go on a talk show, or even here now, and then you see soundbites of things you’ve said, pulled out and italicised, they sound really loud. I’m not that person. I’ve spent a lifetime getting comfortable with the feeling of being uncomfortable.”

Blanchett has been a stunning force in the industry as she has continued to explore diverse roles and premises. She began her career with 1994's Heartland and 1995's Bordertown. Following this, she starred in her first feature film in 1997's Paradise Road and then in Oscar and Lucinda. Her international break came with 1998's Elizabeth, which won her a Golden Globe, a BAFTA, and her first Academy Award nomination. After this, it was all the way up for Blanchett.

She gained global recognition as Galadriel in The Lord of the Rings trilogy (2001–2003), a role she later reprised in The Hobbit films (2012–2014). In 2004's The Aviator, her portrayal of Katharine Hepburn earned her the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress, after which she was nominated for another Oscar for 2006's Notes on a Scandal. At this point, she had experienced quite a few highs in her career and was noted as one of Hollywood's best.

She also played the primary villain, Hela, in Marvel's Thor: Ragnarok. Working with Disney, she starred as the evil stepmother Lady Tremaine in Cinderella's live-action film. Her array of performances is a testimony to her range and diversity in the face of acting.

Blanchett was last seen in Michael Fassbender's The Black Bag which is currently running in theatres.
