Young Thug was recently released from jail and has already been brewing up a storm on social media. The rapper, who had been dealing with the YSL RICO case in court for about two years, took to X to share some eyebrow-raising tweets.
In the first one, he tweeted on November 3, indicating that he was relieved his legal woes had finally come to an end,
"Real plea deal jack!"
However, it was his second tweet that had eyebrows raised. He called on Wham, aka Lil Baby, to join forces with him to drop a new track:
"Wham, let’s drop one on these rats, Peter."
Many began speculating that he was referring to Gunna as a "rat," given that he was accused of tattling on the So Much Fun rapper, but this hasn't been confirmed.
Notably, during court on October 31, as Young Thug stood trial, his legal representation appealed to the judge that he be permitted to work with Gunna as soon as he makes it out from behind bars -- despite being prohibited from working with gang members named in the YSL indictment.
The appeal was granted, suggesting that the two have no bad blood between them, and since then, fans have gone berserk. X has been flooded with memes, cutthroat remarks, and speculations. Here's what one fan had to say in response to Young Thug's tweets:
"Gunna seeing this."
Many more weighed in with their own theories:
"Gunna the rat, he was never gonna say he’s a snitch while fighting the case! Woody too," one fan pointed out.
"I swear, if Gunna didn't say anything they would have released him 2 months later anyways. They absolutely had nothing on Gunna but just needed someone to say that YSL was a gang, he fell for it smh," another claimed.
"It’s not bout gunna why else would he have got an exemption go make music w him," someone else suggested.
"I think he asked to be able to be around Gunna because he is under contract.. business wise ..he never said he would collab with the music as I recall.. could be wrong tho," one user chimed in.
The speculations and jibes didn't end there, with Gunna getting the short end of the stick online:
"gunna biting his nails like tom and jerry rn," one user joked.
"Oh yeah Gunna is fried!!!" another exclaimed.
"He called gunna a snitch and you still rolling w him? What a shame," another fan noted.
Notably, others online began joking that Young Thug, who is on probation for the next fifteen years, wouldn't even last more than a week, given his inflammatory tweets.
Gunna weighs in, claims he did "NOT" cooperate or testify against his fellow YSL signee Young Thug
During court, Young Thug sought permission to work with his brother, Quantavious Grier, a.k.a Unfoonk, as well as Gunna, whom he is under a contractual obligation to work with under Young Stoner Life Records.
In speaking about their work together, Brian Lee, Thug's legal representation, referred to Gunna as "a phenomenal artist" during the trial. He also pointed out that the appeal was driven by the fact that the two "frequently perform music together."
Gunna has long refuted the allegations of being a snitch. He was let go from jail in December 2022, after a seven-month stint, and not long after, his Steve Sadow, alleged, “Gunna did not snitch to get out of jail,” calling on fans to “stop spreading lies.”
Gunna himself has weighed in, when he noted:
"I have NOT made any statements, have NOT been interviewed, have NOT cooperated, have NOT agreed to testify or be a witness for or against any party in the case.”
Regardless, the internet was brutal in dissecting his statements, given that a clip of him concurring with the judge's statement that “YSL is a music label and a gang” made the rounds online.
Gunna, according to XXL Magazine, signed on to an Alford plea of one count of racketeering. Arrested on May 9, 2022, along with Young Thug, he was initially sentenced to half a decade in prison, but while he served a year, the remaining four were suspended.
