A revival of the American fantasy drama series Grimm is on the cards, with the story getting a reboot in movie format. The makers may follow a different storyline than the original one, though the original team behind the series has joined the film's production unit, according to Deadline.

The series was supposed to get a spin-off with a female lead, but the project never saw the light of day. Details on the film reboot are thin on the ground but it is possible its storyline may have a connection with the series.

Deadline sources suggest executive producers Todd Milliner, Jim Kouf, David Greenwalt, and Sean Hayes will be part of the film team, with Drop Dead Diva's Josh Berman writing the story. It is reported that the followup may launch a franchise, too.

Grimm focused on Detective Nicholas "Nick" Burkhardt (David Giuntoli), who learns that he belongs to a lineage of hunters who once fought against supernatural forces. While they are on the human side, they are up against creatures called Wesen.

Acting alongside Nick in the series were Detective Hank Griffin (Russell Hornsby), Juliette Silverton/Eve (Bitsie Tulloch), Captain Sean Renard (Sasha Roiz), among others. Bree Turner as Rosalee Calvert was a guest artiste who later became a regular part of the cast.

The story was supposed to be a CBS show by the name of Brother Grimm, but the project never saw the light of day owing to the Writers Guild of America strike in 2007–08. Subsequently, NBC developed the concept into the series Grimm, which had a six-season run from 2011 to 2017. Seasons 2 and 3 garnered the highest viewership for the show.

The show has also inspired a comic book series that concluded the story in 12 issues. That apart three books based on Grimm, titled The Icy Touch, The Chopping Block, and The Killing Time, were published between 2013 and 2014.

The show was actually inspired by a collection of fairytales written by brothers Jacob and Wilhelm, known as Brothers Grimm. They are known for a number of other stories, including The Frog Prince, Hansel and Gretel, and Rapunzel.

To this date, the show is certified fresh with a rating of 89% on Rotten Tomatoes and 7.9 out of 10 on IMDb.
