On Tueday, April 15, Netflix revealed that Gilbert Arenas’ infamous locker room standoff with Javaris Crittenton will be the subject of a documentary, scheduled to be released on May 6.
The documentary, named Untold: Shooting Guards, will be part of Netlix’s Untold series, an anthology series that began in 2021. In the Untold series, Netflix releases documentaries that shed light on controversial stories from the world of sports each week.
Untold: Shooting Guards will focus on the infamous locker room incident in which teammates Gilbert Arenas and Javaris Crittenton pointed guns at each other after an argument.

After the incident, both NBA players, who were a part of the Washington Wizards, were suspended for the remaining season. The documentary will feature interviews with Arenas and Crittenton, and both players will share their perspectives on the incident that took place on Christmas Eve in 2009.
The incident involving a gun had completely derailed the basketball careers of the two players. Both Arenas and Crittenton received probation for a gun charge, as per ESPN. While Arenas returned to the court the following season, he was traded by the Washington Wizards, and struggled to gain his form.
Eventually, after two bad seasons, Arenas retired from the NBA in 2012. Gilbert Arenas, who regularly features in the media, also appeared in the documentary, Memes & Nightmares.
However, for Crittenton, the locker room incident ended his career. He never returned to the NBA after 2009. In 2015, Crittenton pleaded guilty to manslaughter in a gang-related shooting and was sentenced to 23 years in prison.
The locker-room gun standoff between Gilbert Arenas and Javaris Crittenton explored
It was initially reported that Gilbert Arenas and Javaris Crittenton pointed guns at each other because of a gambling dispute. However as per a report by ABC, Arenas confirmed to The Action Network that the two players got into the season suspending confrontation because of comments that Arenas had made against Crittenton while the latter was playing a card game along with several other teammates, while they were on a team flight.

Crittenton had found Arenas’ comments irritating and the matter intensified when Crittenton lost more money in the card game, and Arenas did not stop making fun of him, as per the report.
In fact, during the heated verbal exchange on the flight, Crittenton had replied to Arenas’ mocking comments and had threatened to shoot him. Arenas mocked Crittenton in return, and suggested that he would bring the guns for Crittenton, as per Arenas’ conversation with The Action Network.

Arenas alleged that two days later, when he found Crittenton in the locker room, he laid down four unloaded guns in front of Crittenton. As per ABC, Arenas, who wanted to provoke Crittenton further, was caught by surprise when Crittenton allegedly pulled out a loaded gun of his own. Although there were no casualties, the incident sent shock waves across the NBA league and amongst its fans.
