Tyler, the Creator, the American producer, singer, and songwriter, has never shied away from appreciating talent. As of late, he has been on quite the run of praising Florida emcee Doechii and her contributions to the current landscape of hip-hop.
In a recent interview with Nardwuar, the mind behind CHROMAKOPIA shouted out Doechii for her abilities, fearlessness, and work ethic,
“She’s a genius… love her. That girl is an alien. We have to keep supporting artists who care. Every time she steps out you see true care and love… we gotta keep pushing that.”
Tyler x Doechii
Admittedly, Tyler’s first interaction with Doechii's material was as a true fan and someone intrigued by her sensibilities as an artist. In the Nardwuar interview, Tyler claims to have found her music on YouTube and subsequently followed the rabbit hole down to its last thread before realizing her true potential and reaching out to her for a potential collaboration. This eventually led to her appearance on “BALLOON.”
The pair recently performed together on Tyler’s global CHROMAKOPIA tour on the last night of his 6-day residency at LA's Crypto.com Arena. Doechii was brought out as a surprise guest during the show, and her appearance blew fans away. Doechii wowed the audience with her talents and unique wardrobe choices, appearing like an athlete straight out of the past, with her vintage-styled fit paired with a winter hat with ear flaps as a nod to the CHROMAKOPIA star.
Tyler then took a minute to speak to the crowd about the fledgling superstar.
“We have to keep supporting everything she does… Keep supporting art. We need that to exist in the midst of all this other sh*t”
This prompted an immediate response from the Florida rap queen as she took to Instagram to share her thoughts after the show,
“i exist at the same time as @feliciathegoat 😭 ty Tyler keep killing it on tour 🤎”
The pair will be re-uniting at this year’s Lollapalooza Chicago, alongside Olivia Rodrigo, Sabrina Carpenter, A$AP Rocky, Gracie Abrams amongst a host of other brilliant artists.
