Gene Hackman’s final autopsy report has revealed that the Oscar-winning actor did not die due to a Hanta Virus infection. The final autopsy was released by the office of the Medical Investigator in New Mexico.

Gene Hackman and his wife Betsy Arakawa were found dead in their residence on February 26. Initial findings had suggested that the couple died much before their decomposing bodies were discovered. Further investigations and medical examinations revealed that Arakawa died about a week before her husband passed away.

While initial reports had suggested that Arakawa passed away on February 11, her phone records revealed that she used her phone to contact a medical facility for help on February 12. It was later concluded that she died on February 12 from complications that arose from an infection of Hanta Virus.

As far as Hackman was concerned, however, there were no reports that suggested that the actor had succumbed to the same infection as his wife. In fact, initial reports pointed towards the fact that Hackman was alive after his wife’s death.

According to CNN, Gene Hackman passed away a week after his wife death. As per reports, Hackman suffered from cardiac related issues, and was a patient of Alzheimer’s disease that severely impacted his day to day functioning. After Betsy Arakawa’s death, who was also Hackman’s primary care giver, Hackman most likely could not take care of his day to day functioning, noted CNN.

The recently released final autopsy report sheds more details about the health struggles that Gene Hackman had been facing over the last few years.

What does Gene Hackman’s final autopsy report reveal about his health conditions?

As per the final autopsy report obtained by Fox News, Gene Hackman suffered from heart congestion, a medical condition which had led to a number of heart functioning failures in the past. Because of Hackman’s heart condition, a bi-ventricular pacemaker was fitted for aiding his heart functioning in 2019, as per the autopsy report.

Apart from a “history of congestive heart failure,” Hackman also suffered “chronic severe hypertensive changes,” which in turn effected his kidney functions. The autopsy report also revealed that besides being operated on for placing a pacemaker in 2019, there were several other medical interventions that Hackman had undergone. As per the report, Hackman had received medical interventions for coronary artery stents, a bypass graft and as well as an aortic valve replacement in the past.

Fox News noted that the autopsy report confirmed that Hackman suffered from Alzheimer’s disease, a fact that had been suggested right from the time of initial investigations, and never confirmed. As per the report, microscopic examination of Hackman’s brain showed signs pointing towards severe neurodegenerative changes that confirm that the actor suffered from Alzheimer’s disease.

The autopsy report also revealed that Hackman’s deceased body contained traces of acetone, a chemical which is released by the body when it is not provided nutrition. As per the report by Fox News, Hackman’s acetone level was found to be 5.3 mg/dl, whereas a normal count of the chemical in the body is around 0.3 mg/dL. The above finding also gave strong ground as to the theory that Hackman had not been able to take care of himself in his last few days after his wife’s death, and had suffered from starvation.

The final autopsy report gave a much more conclusive insight into Gene Hackamn’s medical conditions, and it also confirmed that Hackman had tested negative for Hanta Virus, an infection which was the primary cause of his wife’s death.
