Leslie admitted that his death was “not terribly shocking because he was 95”. However, she also added that,
“Despite his age, he was in very good physical condition. He liked to do Pilates and yoga, and he was continuing to do that several times a week. So he was in good health."
Leslie mentioned that her father did not have any major surgeries before his tragic death. As a result, she noted that “there was no indication that there was any problem”. She also pointed out some details of their recent past.
“We were close….I hadn’t talked to them for a couple of months, but everything was normal and everything was good,"

"They had a wonderful marriage. I give credit to his wife, Betsy, for keeping him alive. She took very, very good care of him and was always looking out for his health. So I am appreciative to her for that, and I’m very saddened by her passing.”

Two maintenance workers found Gene Hackman and Betsy Arakawa's bodies in their N.M. house. They found Gene in the mud room, next to the kitchen. He had his sunglasses next to him. Betsy was seen lying on the bathroom floor with an open prescription pill bottle, with the pills scattered around.
Per Variety, Det. Roy Arndt said in his search warrant that,
