Emilia Perez star Karla Sofia Gascon released a third statement on Instagram on February 1 addressing her resurfaced X controversial statements. Karla posted a photo of a Nichiren Buddhist symbol and wrote in Spanish,

"Just like in Emilia Perez: We can all change for the better, me too."

Karla Sofia Gascon has been under fire after allegedly past Islamophobic tweets from her social media accounts resurfaced on the internet days before the 2025 Oscars nomination. The actress had earlier made controversial comments about Muslim immigration in Spain.

She then went on to ask for forgiveness saying,

"The first thing I'd like to do is ask for the most sincere forgiveness from everyone who felt bad for my form of expression in any part of my life. I have a lot to learn in this world, my forms (of expression) are my main flaw. Life has taught me something I never wanted to learn: it's clear to me no matter what your message is, without using the right words, it becomes another."

She went on to mention that she cannot "repair" her past acts and ensured that she's not the same person she was "10 or 20 years ago." Despite the lengthy statement, netizens seem to disbelieve her sincerity.

While some claimed that the actress is allegedly "gaslighting" her audience, others also noted that despite claiming that she can't change the person she was "10 or 20 years ago", her resurfaced tweets were initially posted recently dating 2020 or 2022.

"10 or 20 years ago, but most of her tweets were from 2020/2021 😭😭😭 alright girl" - a user noted
"I mean, practically speaking, she’s not specifically racist, it seems like she hates every race and pretty much everything equally. 😅" - another user insinuated
"there’s no out of context about those racist things you said girl" - a user noted
"she’s backpedaling so hard oh Karla no Oscar for you" - another user mentioned
