The Weeknd's got a new look, no, he didn't visit a barber, but we got his new look from his upcoming film, Hurry Up Tomorrow, which Trey Edward Shults, who loves directing psychological films, is directing. He already has three under his belt, namely Krisha (2015), It Comes at Night (2017), and Waves (2019).

Recently, Empire magazine released the singer's and the lead in the film's new look as the film is due next month. We can see him looking at burning flames, and flames at him as they throw light on his face. He is playing Abel Tesfaye, or just himself.

Jenna Ortega and Barry Keoghan join him in the film and will play Anima and Lee, respectively. While the former is likely playing his love interest in the film, the latter appears to be his friend or his manager. As of now, Hurry Up Tomorrow has a couple of trailers on YouTube; the second one arrived only last week.

It also serves as one of the final projects Kevin Turen (X, Arbitrage, The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent, and more) was a part of before his death on November 12, 2023.

What is Hurry Up Tomorrow about?

The film's trailers have given us a fair few clues as to what we should expect with Hurry Up Tomorrow: The Weeknd, well, partly. Other than that, he is an individual whose brain (or Anima) is likely playing games with him. The guy appears psychologically tortured.

Its plot (via IMDb) will give us a little bit of clarity on this. It reads,

"An insomniac musician encounters a mysterious stranger, leading to a journey that challenges everything he knows about himself."

Now that it's not clear who this mysterious stranger this brief is talking about is, it may be either Jenna Ortega's or Barry Keoghan's character. Let's just hope we don't get to see a Tyler Durden in the story.

Trey told Empire that Hurry Up Tomorrow is partly inspired by one incident that happened with the acclaimed singer in 2022. He lost his voice during a performance, though it was more of a psychological thing than physical. Regarding that, the director said,

"I think it was a test. What happens if this thing that you’re relying on too much is taken away from you?"

Whatever it was, we are sure to see the bits of it in the movie on May 16, 2025.
