The Fantastic Four: First Steps is all set to bring Marvel's First Family into the MCU, but contrary to popular speculation, it won't be an origin story. In a recent report by Deadline, the film will skip past the part where the four heroes first discover their powers. Instead, the story will pick up four years after they have already come into their abilities and most likely utilized them for other missions.

The update comes in the wake of the release of The Fantastic Four: First Steps-themed comic tied directly to the movie, which revealed this specific detail. However, here's the fun part: this is reportedly the first time Marvel Comics and Marvel Studios have worked together on such a project.

Although interconnected through their stories, the two divisions had never formally teamed up in connection with a movie until now. So, it's a call for celebration for the MCU fans who get a specially minted one-shot comic book set in the world of the upcoming Pedro Pascal and Vanessa Kirby-led film.

The Fantastic Four: First Steps will get a comic-book treatment

The Fantastic Four: First Steps comic has come to life, thanks to the contribution of the movie's production designer, Kasra Farahani, who collaborated with comic book writer Matt Fraction, artist Mark Buckingham, and cover artist Phil Noto, all of whom ensured a unified look and feel. It will serve as a key artifact in the upcoming MCU film.

In line with this, C.B. Cebulski, the Editor in Chief of Marvel Comics, stated:

“As Marvel’s First Family, the Fantastic Four and their stories have always been at the very center of the Marvel Universe. With The Fantastic Four: First Steps coming later this summer, we at Marvel all felt this was the perfect opportunity to bring our teams together in honor of their legacy in both the world of the film and within our comics."

He continued:

"It’s been a blast to have our teams in Publishing and Studios bounce ideas back and forth to create something truly special and one-of-a-kind, and we can’t wait for fans to be able to dive into this comic—squarely in the world of the MCU—and experience the Fantastic Four like we’ve never seen before this summer. The heart of Marvel has always stemmed from the comics, and Kevin and the team have been bringing those pages to life in extraordinary ways with each and every film. With this comic, we’re bringing those two worlds together in a way we think fans will love.”

The Fantastic Four: First Steps will hit the theaters on July 25, while the comic, published by Future Foundation, will launch on July 2, 2025.
