French action thriller Ad Vitam is currently topping Netflix charts: Reports

Rodolphe Lauga's French action thriller film Ad Vitam is currently topping Netflix charts and is the most popular movie on the streaming platform, per reports. The movie, starring Guillaume Cannet, globally premiered on Netflix on January 10, 2025 and has ever since garnered quite some audience attention.

As per multiple reports, Ad Vitam put up a fair competition against several classics like Despicable Me and the Rush Hour trilogy to reach the top spot in a very short time. Jean Cottin from Cabanes Productions has worked alongside lead star Cannet. The official synopsis of Ad Vitam reads:

"After escaping an attempted murder, Franck Lazareff must find his wife Leo, who has been kidnapped by a mysterious group of armed men.He is caught up by his past as a former member of the French Elite Intervention Squad (GIGN) and pulled into a state affair far beyond his control."

Ad Vitam is now topping Netflix charts

Ad Vitam has surprisingly gained quite some popularity since its January 10 debut and is now the top trending film on Netflix. Even though the French thriller has received mixed reviews, it has joined the list of some heavily trending foreign language movies like Under Paris and GTMax.

The story revolves around a former counter terrorism operative named Franck Lazareff (Guillaume Cannet) initially associated with the the French Elite Intervention Squad (GIGN). The Parisian ex-cop got himself sacked as a consequence of a shootout gone wrong.

He now works a normal civilian job and takes care of his heavily pregnant wife Leo (played by Stephane Caillard). However, things go sideways when Franck and Leo are attacked in their house by a group of armed men. Franck closely evades an atempted murder but is not able to save his wife, who eventually gets abducted by the masked intruders.

As per reports, Ad Vitam has been closely compared by fans to Liam Neeson's action starrer Taken, all the more reason why many viewers rushed to Netflix as soon as the movie aired. Major production work for Ad Vitam took place in Paris and Versailes.
