From playing the character of the protagonist's best friend in Good Will Hunting to nailing the role of Batman in Justice League, Ben Affleck has played various characters in his acting career. Having said that, the Pearl Harbor star recently opened up about facing difficulties while shooting a scene that involved kissing his male co-star Jason Lee in the 1997 indie rom-com Chasing Amy.
In an interview with GQ on April 17, 2025, Affleck talked about his professional as well as personal life, including opening up about how he felt during the kissing scene with Lee in Chasing Amy. The 52-year-old actor, who is currently busy with the promotion of his brand new action thriller film The Accountant 2, also finalized his divorce from Jennifer Lopez on February 21, 2025. It was Lopez who filed for their divorce last August.
In his interview with GQ, Affleck recalled having difficulty processing and coming face to face with his emotions while shooting the kissing scene with co-actor Jason Lee in Chasing Amy. The Argo actor said:
"I ended up having to confront some of my own internalized homophobia [in Chasing Amy] because I found it so difficult to kiss Jason (Lee). And I thought, ‘This is really embarrassing. Like, this is clearly some internalized thing because why should that be a difficult thing to do?'"
Affleck further discussed Chasing Amy, and added:
"At the time, what I thought about it was that it kind of alluded to a spectrum of sexual orientation. Because to me it was very suggestive around the homosexuality between the two friends."
The indie romantic comedy flick, Chasing Amy, revolves around two comic book artists. When they come across a pretty girl, one of them falls in love with her. Later, the one who fell in love gets heartbroken when he finds out that she is a lesbian.
Affleck, while discussing the kissing scene and the issues he faced while filming it, also mentioned that, looking back at the movie years later, he confessed that he wasn't satisfied with his acting.
