The fourth film in the iconic I Know What You Did Last Summer franchise is all set to release as Sony Pictures has just released the film's first official poster, release date, and plot synopsis. As a direct sequel to 1998's I Still Know What You Did Last Summer, the film will bring back the core cast as they embark on another slasher thriller and uncover deeper secrets about themselves. The first film, directed by Jim Gillespie and written by Kevin Williamson, was loosely based on Lois Duncan's book series of the same name. It was then followed by two more films, 1998's I Still Know What You Did Last Summer, and 2006's I'll Always Know What You Did Last Summer.
The new poster features a bloody metal hook set against the white backdrop, with the film's name written in scarlet red alongside it. The hook is obviously a reference to the film's villain, Ben Willis, who wielded a hook as he hunted down the teenagers involved in a killing. The poster has also revealed the film's release date as 18th July, 2025.
Jennifer Kaytin Robinson is directing I Know What You Did Last Summer, while Leah McKendrick is behind the screenplay. The synopsis of the film reads,
“When five friends inadvertently cause a deadly car accident, they cover up their involvement and make a pact to keep it a secret rather than face the consequences. A year later, their past comes back to haunt them and they’re forced to confront a horrifying truth: someone knows what they did last summer…and is hell-bent on revenge."
It then continues,
“As one by one the friends are stalked by a killer, they discover this has happened before, and they turn to two survivors of the legendary Southport Massacre of 1997 for help.”
